KORE (or EvoFusion) Catback - Submitted by Elantra2.001 1. First, of course, is find some way to raise up the car and if you can, let the car sit to let the exhaust cool to avoid burning yourself. Ok, now that you have the car in the air safely, spray some kind of bolt or rust release on the bolts and rubber hangers. You can see the flange and bolts that come right after the cat.
2. That tube on the right is the resonator. That will be removed. Now after you have let the oil set in for a little while, loosen all the bolts a little. You are going to need a 19mm wrench for this, I believe. The bolts to the rear muffler section may be completely removed as that section may lightly rest on the suspension. Before you completely separate the front half of the middle section of the exhaust, have someone or something hold up the part with the cat and flex pipe or you might rip out the O2 sensor when it falls. It is attached so it wont go all the way down, but it scared me enough that I reached out and grabbed it until I got a stand in there.
3. The muffler section will be fine while you remove the center section as there are enough hangers.
4. The rubber hangers can be tricky to get off but the oil sprayed on them will help a lot and you just have to wrestle them a little. Next remove the muffler piece and set everything out of the way. I installed the new center section first so that I could move that stand further down the line until I tied in the muffler. You will use the stock mounting hardware here so don't get rid of the nuts. Loosely install this piece and just tighten the nuts enough that it wont fall down.
This picture shows it tightened all the way so leave some manuevering room. The hangers I had to stretch a little so that was tricky but I managed.
5. Next, have someone or something ( the stand again for me) hold the rear muffler section in place while you but the bolt through above the rear suspension. Here you will use the supplied bolts. Don't forget the gaskets by the way.
6. You will notice that you cannot install the last rubber hanger because it won't reach due to the fact that the bumper does not allow the muffler to get high enough. It would be a good idea to mark off where the bumber sits and create the notch in the bumper now before you tighten everything up.
7. When that is finished, just reinstall the muffler and tighten everything down.
This is what it will look like looking at the hangers from the muffler forward.
8. Now check everything once or twice to make sure it's on correctly and the bolts are tightened up. Enjoy. |
