Custom Speaker Adapter - Submitted by Robit 28 Speaker adapter to adapt JL Audio splits into a Elantra Elite (GLS), same principal for other vehicles and speaker types. 1. Remove the door panels. See the Door Panel Removal Guide if needed. Remove the speakers. Disassemble the plastic casing on the speaker itself and remove any protruding bits of plastic. This will make it easier to trace around onto the MDF template we will be using.
2. Using the plastic housing from the original speaker, trace around the outer edge onto some 6mm thick MDF board.
3. Using the new speakers template centred in the middle of the traced template of the plastic housing, trace the cutouts for the speaker and screws.
4. Using a suitable jigsaw, cut out the hole for the new speaker and drill the holes for the screws.
5. Install one of the new speakers as a test fit to make sure you have a large enough hole for the speaker to sit nicely in the new adapter and that the screw holes line up.
6. Using your jigsaw once again, cut out the outer edge of the adapter and sand smooth.
7. Test fit the adapter on the door of the car, making sure it fits nicely and the screws line up.
8. Lay some 10mm adhesive foam around the back of the mdf to seal around all the edges.
9. Then lay the same foam around the front of the speaker to stop any rattles from the door trim.
10. Finally, fit the speaker and adapter into the door screwing in firmly so the foam squashes for a tight fit.
