Steering Wheel Removal - Submitted by Slow2K2GT

Tools needed:

Rachet and extension.
7/8 socket (for retaining nut).
3/16 hex bit (for bolt on left and right of airbag).
A small screwdriver to pop out covers.
Phillips screwdriver.

NOTE: Please disconnect the battery and let sit for 5-10 minutes before starting this removal. Press the brake pedal a couple times to drain all remaining power. After you are finished, store the airbag in a dry, cool place. Please be careful during this procedure.

1. Pop off the bolt covers on the left and right of the airbag. Then with the 3/16 hex bit loosen off the bolts. They do not come out the whole way.

2. Lift the airbag off and you will see this:

There is a nut in the center of the wheel but in this picture it has already been removed.

3. There is a black free moving ring attached at the back of the wheel, in most cases this will have to come off, it's held in place by 4 small phillips screws. You will need to turn your wheel to get at them.

4. Remove clips and pull hard (or be gentle).

Note: The power wire for the horn is in the adaptor that you pulled out of here, and it's the thickest red wire.
