Throttle Body Coolant Bypass - Sumitted by Elantra2.001

1. The first thing you should do is remove the top of the air box from the throttle body by loosening the screw pointed out by the top arrow.



2. The other two arrows show you where the clips are on the airbox to remove the top half. There are also tabs in the back that simply slid out. There is also a tube that seems to come from the top of the engine, just pull this off. After you have done this, your engine will look like this.

This arrow shows you where the coolant lines will be found.



3. Next, remove these electrical connections for sensors just to make it easier to work in the area as well as movine the throttle cable up out of the way. If you dont feel like doing this, leave it, its just nice to have a clear area to move around.



4. The electrical connections are the two arrows on the top left and the long one on the right shows how I moved the throttle cable. You can also see the two detached coolant lines circled in red. There is one clip on each line, you remove them by taking some pliers and squeezing the two parts of the clips and slide them donw the line, until they are off the throttle body area. Then just twist back and forth until the line comes off. The arrow on the bottom shows where the lines are attached to a main line. Remove one from the throttle body, and one from the main line. Now simply bend the line to the other side. The next picture will show you what to do now that the lines have been removed, just make them into "U's".



5. Arrow number one shows one of the lines that went to the throttle body just being rerouted back into arrow number two. Arrow three shows how not to leave the other "nipples" on the throttle body exposed so it did the same thing there that was done on arrows one and two. I went to a parts shop and got a set of hose clamps because they have to be better than the crappy one HMC used but thats up to you. After this, remove the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU so that it would learn the new mod. When you put it back on after 15 or so minutes it will spark so dont freak out. Then just drive around for a while and let the ECU relearn its maps and notice that you engine doesnt bog down so much when the engine is warm. Happy motoring.
