2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan
How long have you owned your Elantra?
5 Years and 1 month. Bought it in April 2001.
Is there anything special, unique, or different concerning the history of your Elantra?
I wrecked it the day before Thanksgiving in 2002 the night I moved into my house. I drove it around for 3 years like that, then while I was deployed overseas, a friend was going to take it in and get the dent fixed for me. That's it... just the dent. Well... during my 5 months overseas, my dent repair turned into what you see now.
Honestly, what was your intention when you bought your Elantra?
It was my first brand new car. I wanted something cheap, yet reliable. Getting from point A to point B was all I was really worried about, and it had a 10 year warranty.
What was your intention after discovering EXD (or other Hyundai forums)?
My intention was to learn more about the car. I knew NOTHING about cars when I found EXD. I still know next to nothing, but I've learned a ton. This community is great, and I've made a lot of really cool friends.
In one word describe the style of your Elantra.
Is this really possible?
I'd say take your pick... 'mine,' or 'sick,' or 'green.'
Who helped modify your Elantra?
Well, so many people from EXD I can't list them all, but in person, clarion/Reggie helped the most. He helped me with the cat-back, sway bar, strut bar, speaker wiring, intake, and someone to discuss the crazy turbo problems. Thanks man!
What do you like most about your Elantra?
The color and bodykit. I wanted a green car when I bought it, but Hyundai didn't make them in green, at least not here during 2001. I bought saying in 3-4 years I'd paint it green after it had some scratches and stuff. Well, it got scratched pretty bad (DENT), so I painted it green!
What do you like least about your Elantra?
Right now, the turbo piping. PVC elbow? Come on 777.
What modification is next for your Elantra?
Not positive, but hopefully replacing the turbo piping... that's not really a new mod though. I've got some other things up my sleeve, but I'm keeping it a secret for HITH.
On a scale from 0-10, how would you rate your Elantra?
Right now, I'd say a 7.5. It's come such a long way, but I want to take it even further.
Most commonly, what do people say about your Elantra?
"What kind of car is that? Is it a Hyundai?" From the uninformed.
"Man your ride is sick!" From the EXD community.
Who is allowed to drive your Elantra?
Me. I wanted my wife to learn to drive it before I got the racing clutch, I'm not even going to try to teach her to drive a stick with it now.
What is the most outrageous thing you have wanted to do to your car that you have not been able to do?
Um, this is a hard one, since I've done almost everything I wanted to so far, at least as far as 'outrageous' things go. I would kind of like to have nitrous, or lambo doors. Right now I just want to get the turbo finished. Tuned properly, and no CEL's.
What kind of car did you own (or drive) before your Elantra?
LOL, a Chevy Celebrity station wagon. 1988. I called it the "Battle Tank." A deer ran into the drivers door before I got it. I drove that car from FL to NC to WI to SC, and back to FL.
Realistically, what kind of car is next?
I've been eyeing the Pontiac Solstice, Audi TT, the new Eclipse. I don't plan on getting another car for a couple of years though. If I go overseas, I'll probably buy a 4x4, if not, the next car will probably be a 2008 Elantra for the wife. She likes the 2007, but I want to have her car paid off for a year at least before we buy another one.
