KeWLKaT - Visit My Garage 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback How long have you owned your Elantra? I've had it since September of 2004. Two years, 50,000km and counting baby! Is there anything special, unique, or different concerning the history of your Elantra? Well other than the normal mishaps, I think the oldschoolers remember the time where I flipped the car (Link to Thread). I think I have the only XD out in here that has survived that! Honestly, what was your intention when you bought your Elantra? I wanted something better than my worthless domestic I was driving at the time, and I needed a replacement fast. Frankly, I was eyeing Acura 1.6ELs and almost bought a Subaru Legacy GT, but the elantra was cheaper than those on insurance, and the hatchback was a model I hadn't seen yet. Tried it, fell in love!
What was your intention after discovering EXD (or other Hyundai forums)? I just wanted to make my car funner to drive. I remember counting my modding pennies as I bought my swaybar and my intake back 2 years ago. And then I just got addicted and started dumping much more cash into it. I think I am finally coming to a stop now. In one word describe the style of your Elantra. Sleeper. Who helped modify your Elantra? We have a little group locally, all my buddies in there are on EXD also. There is Frank (destroyers), Artur (obi_one), Fred (Freddy Krueger). All these guys were there during the turbo install in my garage, and I'd like to give out especially BIG shout outs to Frank, I did my first clutch job with him and learned how it works. That guy is a big inspiration to me when it comes to cars, he's done it all!
What do you like most about your Elantra? The engine. Wow, it can take a lot of beating. I have done everything from driving it the hardest possible, to boosting up to 14 psi in it, STOCK. I am impressed, no other N/A designed engine that I know of could withstand that in my opinion, the way the beta2 has. (*cough* Honda *cough*). What do you like least about your Elantra? The body. It's starting to rust already after 5 years of existence! I will bring it to the bodyshop in the summer to fix those little spots that are starting to come out under the door tapes. What modification is next for your Elantra? Window tint! That's one of the most basic modifications you can do on a car, however it seems that I have been able to keep it aside and forget about it. This summer, I have no excuse, it WILL get done.
On a scale from 0-10, how would you rate your Elantra? 8. I love it, though I have to do something with the interior, which will be happening during winter vacations, some fiberglass and paint WILL be involved! Most commonly, what do people say about your Elantra? "Wow, it's fast and classy!" Who is allowed to drive your Elantra? Aside from me, my buddy Frank. He's the only one I know of who has the same transmission setup as me, and since I have sunk a good amount of money into it, I would not want anyone who might damage/prematurely wear out the clutch drive it. What is the most outrageous thing you have wanted to do to your car that you have not been able to do? Head porting. I would really love to get that done one of these days, but I thought about it, and once I start getting into the internals, there's no going back, and I am done putting big cash into the car, for now.
What kind of car did you own (or drive) before your Elantra? A 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier. I would've still had it if it wasn't for the water flooding issues I kept getting, in winter I would have literally 3-4mm of ice formed on the inside of the windshield in the mornings, not fun to have to scrape on the outside AND the inside of your windshield. Also, because of that it had a bunch of electrical problems, I remember my door chime coming off while driving in rain on random occasions. Realistically, what kind of car is next? Well, right now, I am set on a Subaru WRX. Not the STi model, I think that you pay way too much for what you have when it comes to those. Then again I might change my mind in a couple of years since I'll be keeping the XD for a long, long time!
