Keyan 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan How long have you owned your Elantra? Just a couple of months, but I did have a silver 2001 GLS before it. Is there anything special, unique, or different concerning the history of your Elantra? When I was 18, I had graduated high school and had college breathing down my neck. My parents felt like I deserved a car so I could communte to the Community College, and that is how I picked up my 2001 Silver GLS. But that is not the car that won the COTM and thus starts my story. After just months after owning my 01, I was driving back from Maryland (I lived in upstate NJ at the time) from a day at the "local" dragstrip when traffic stopped on the New Jersey Turnpike. Without ABS or TCS, and on brakes that were fading, I had to swerve into the center shoulder to avoid a couple of cars. I locked my brakes up and came to a stop, but the Ford E350 behind me did not. Hit me doing over 45. Elantra totalled...well a couple of months later when I finally got my check from the insurance company, I set out to get a tiburon...and got it. But then lost my job. I returned to the dealership BEGGING to be able for them to take it back, and they said they would only do it...if I bought a cheaper car. Well wouldn't you know it, there was a Tidal Wave GLS elantra on the lot in my price range! That was in December of 2004. Honestly, what was your intention when you bought your Elantra? When I got my 2001 I had no idea what car tuning was, and if you asked me how many cylinders were in it, I wouldn't have been able to tell you. Well after I got my 2005, I had been in the modding scene with my XD for a while, and I really wanted to mod the XD2. But I didn't want rice like my XD. No stickers on the car, no cheap-o mods that you can tell were quickly done...only quality, planned out mods for me. What was your intention after discovering EXD (or other Hyundai forums)? ell like I said before, I found EXD knowing nothing of cars or modding. But after reading and lurking around the forums, I finally created a user name and asked some basic questions...and then I modded just a little bit... and I couldn't stop. It's an addiction! In one word describe the style of your Elantra. European. Every time I look at the headlights or the trunk for some reason it reminds me of a euro styled car. It just does. Like an Audi almost. (Editor's Note: That's way past one word, ha). Who helped modify your Elantra? Alot of my inpiration came from ilanpro, and most of the members I've met at East-coast meets. In my garage, just me and a couple of my friends on rare occations. What do you like most about your Elantra? I love the 3D XD2 gauges, and I love the line of the trunk for some crazy reason (Oh God I hope I don't have a trunk fetish or something). What do you like least about your Elantra? My dyno results LOL. 106hp, with CVVT? It felt like I got ripped 80 bucks for the dynojet! I've done a couple of mods and I have yet to dyno it again, but I think I've really "opened it up" if you take my meaning. What modification is next for your Elantra? Realistically it's a couple of things. One is a CAI with bypass valve. (It would be a project cause I would have to play with the MAF, figure out if I can swap it because I want a 3 inch intake but the MAF is a smaller diameter and I don't want any restrictions) The next thing is Dual gauge pillar with gauges. Don't have the money for those yet. And the last thing is heated seats DIY. I can get the parts from dreamka but I have NO IDEA how to wire it up (if anyone wants to help me....LOL). On a scale from 0-10, how would you rate your Elantra? About a 9. It's hard to put it on a scale. There are times when I love it and times when I'm "blah" with it. Most commonly, what do people say about your Elantra? "Your Hondai is slowwww." Who is allowed to drive your Elantra? Me usually, and some close friends if they beg enough. What is the most outrageous thing you have wanted to do to your car that you have not been able to do? Concepto kit. Just the price turns me away. I might end up getting the Austrailian Talon lip kit though. What kind of car did you own (or drive) before your Elantra? Like I've mentioned before, I had an 2001 XD and now a 2005 XD2. Realistically, what kind of car is next? Ya know, I can't really answer that. I love my elantra and I would love to drive it into the ground. When the transmission goes to swap it to a stick shift....when the engine goes, to blueprint the block and turbo charge it....but that is far in the future and it's hard to think of what I would want next. I can tell you this. Rear wheel drive or AWD is a must, and it must be tuner-friendly. Oh, and under $30k.
