$8,500 for my XD
$2,500 rebate
Huge azz employee discount
$10 more per month for insurance
and $90 more per month car payment.
$100 total more per month then I pay now for my XD
What would you do?
tharptroy 06-09-2004, 07:28 PM hrmm.....I'd ditch the Xd in a hearbeat..well, hrmm, I say that....its a predicament. but think about this: you have a project mustang already, and you can do whatever the hell you want with it and it doesnt matter, because its not the car you depend on. The XD would certainly make a better parts chaser than the stang, and probably more comfortable for multiple people. there are a hell of alot more performance parts for the stang, which means that you know you're going to modify it, you cant resist, which in turn costs reliability.
I'd say to put the extra $100 per month towards paying off the XD. its more or less a crappy car, but I think most of the drivetrain will hold out longer than the mustang
Jlivan 06-09-2004, 07:30 PM SELL OUT !! I would have kept my Elantra!
Sorry that you are leaving......good luck w/your pony!!
mcmmotorsports 06-09-2004, 07:32 PM Well, it isn't final yet. It is in the hands of the credit union
Jlivan 06-09-2004, 07:40 PM its more or less a crappy car, but I think most of the drivetrain will hold out longer than the mustang
Crappy car???? I think not, and I know a couple of people here would think the same way.
Steve 06-09-2004, 07:50 PM You already have a Stang! Do you really want to put fuel into two hungry 8's?
Guess 06-09-2004, 07:53 PM I like it good luck with it if you get it I grew up around stangs so I love um.
SWortham 06-09-2004, 07:55 PM Hard to say man... the Mustang would be great if you can comfortably afford it. It's way out of the Elantra's league. Would you get the base GT, or lots of options?
Steve 06-09-2004, 07:58 PM Oh yeah, what would I do?
If it was me, I'd really like to own a Mustang, but I'm not owning anymore two doors, so I'd keep my Elantra.

U hit it. U hit it with a stick.
how loaded?
either way if it's gt go for it v6 not worth it.

hyundai cuts corners to make prices like they are. the seats in the elantra are a joke, they only lock into place half of the time. you get what you pay for (for the most part). I think the hyundai has a solid drivetrain though.
SuperGLS 06-09-2004, 09:45 PM I'd keep the Elantra since you already have a Mustang. Plus, when the 05's come out you'll think "I could have waited for these new ones which look 400 times better." (You know me, always thinking about looks). Even if it would be dramatically more money for a newer one.
But, do whatever makes you happy.
rckozma 06-09-2004, 09:57 PM I agree with Super, wait for the newer body style if you are going to do it. Good luck either way.
JacksonJ 06-09-2004, 09:59 PM I agree with Super, with the 05's coming out soon I would wait. Those look a lot better, even if it is the first of the new model and all the bugs aren't worked out.
Keyan 06-09-2004, 10:02 PM get the '05....:)
Kyrol 06-09-2004, 10:12 PM the o5's are goign to have a huge markup for atleast 8months. Thats why I'm waiting till start of the 06 runn before I buy my 05. And roush should have the kit's put together for it then. :drive:
mcmmotorsports 06-10-2004, 06:13 AM the o5's are goign to have a huge markup for atleast 8months. Thats why I'm waiting till start of the 06 runn before I buy my 05. And roush should have the kit's put together for it then. :drive:
Not only markup, but aftermarket support as well. Why spend close to $30 for something that I can enjoy for $20K. I love the looks of the 05, but the timing right now calls for the 04. AND I WILL NOT REGRET THIS :D
hyunelan2 06-10-2004, 09:35 AM Wait for the 05-06. Store that extra $100 up for a bigger down payment. Once the new mustangs are out, 04 and below are gonna be like the 3rd gen camaro when gen 4 & 5 came around - they were looked down on severly. With you already having a toy mustang, you should keep your gas-saving reliability car. Since you KNOW if you get this car, you will 'play' with it. I know the lust for V8 is hard to resist (my last car was a Z28) but use some logic here. It would be cool, yes - but not a good idea.
watson80 06-10-2004, 09:45 AM Mustangs are a dime a dozen....just like Xds are. You are paying 100 per month more to have the same boring *** mustang thousands of other people have. Put that 100 per month in the XD and you have a very unique 1 of a kind XD. Thats what I would do. I wouldnt take a Mustang if it where the same momey!!
dude do like me keep the xd for daily driving use the other cars as a project car
HatchetMan 06-10-2004, 11:16 AM Never liked stangs, always wanted a Z28 'til they discontinued them (won't buy a used one). Only thing keeping me from owning one was the insurance. If your insurance is really only $10 more per month, then I say get it! And then save up for gas.
Jlivan 06-10-2004, 11:38 AM hyundai cuts corners to make prices like they are. the seats in the elantra are a joke, they only lock into place half of the time. you get what you pay for (for the most part). I think the hyundai has a solid drivetrain though.
I do belive that the Elantra does have a couple of down falls....but it was actually a step up from my first car....so I am happy.
slvrsleeper 06-10-2004, 12:12 PM The mustang is faster but I can't deal with Fords 1979 was a good year school of interior design. Sorry but I'm six feet tall and I still can't get the shifter in a Stang into fifth without my back coming out of the seat! What BS! Wait for the 05 dude it costs more for a good reason. Something about the Fox platform being almost as old as I am is something of a turnoff as well. If it makes you happy though go for it you only live once!
watson80 06-10-2004, 06:40 PM dont get it....Fords Suck!!! IMO!
only1db 06-11-2004, 12:15 AM keep the elantra...espcially with gas prices the way they are!! not to mention four doors! you already have a mustang...why get another POS? :bang:
Elantra2.001 06-11-2004, 12:36 AM Not a mustang fan. I cant stand the fact that its taken them this long to get away from what is basically a truck suspension design. You have a stang that you can make faster for cheaper. Thats what i would do.

Well a solid rear axle is what is best for drag racing. I don't think they cared very much about cornering. I think what the new cobra owners are doing when they build it for drag is converting it back to a solid rear axle for drag racing. I read it somewhere can't find the link. But basicly having an independent rear end can make the car get a little squiggly from what I have heard and seen.
I say go for it as long as the trim package is right. Nothing like a big motor to work on. I miss driving my rx7 when it rained I would go up to the mall parking lot and just slide it all over the place. rwd is the best.
FordFasteRR 06-11-2004, 09:40 AM dont get it....Fords Suck!!! IMO!
uh oh.... just one more ford comment like that mister... and you'll be owned !!!
I would buy the stang except for one thing.
GAS PRICES. You will be required to run premium fuel in that GT all the time... with gas prices the way they are, you'll regret it really fast.
watson80 06-11-2004, 10:52 AM I know Ford...sorry i was waiting for you to see that! But its how i feel.
anyone with ford in their name deserves to be bashed!!!!!!!!!
hehehehehehehheeh
j/p buddy ;)
shawn :)
oh and i say, you have one mustang, do you really need another one?
if you do, enjoy it!
TBurton 06-11-2004, 12:10 PM Mustangs are a dime a dozen....just like Xds are. You are paying 100 per month more to have the same boring *** mustang thousands of other people have.
I totally agree. Mustangs are no big deal. Once the initial shock of seeing the 05s rolling around dies down a little, the other mustangs will be less than "no big deal". They will be gay.
Elantra2.001 06-11-2004, 12:50 PM Who cares about driving in a straight line anyway, that gets boring. A car with good handling is much more fun.

:iamwithst
MCM, buy my coilovers instead. Then you'll have a fast Mustang for straights and XD that will pull some serious G-forces in the corners! ;)
mcmmotorsports 06-11-2004, 07:53 PM I got a 2003 Taurus from my job to drive. My wife and I are leaving to head up to Baltimore tomorrow at 3 am to be there by 9 am. I will be picking up my new stang and driving back with my wife driving the Taurus. All expenses paid and I am the first to drive my new car. :D
SWortham 06-11-2004, 10:14 PM Awesome man. Good luck with your purchase, have fun, and drive safe. ;)
Whoever said Mustangs are boring clearly hasn't driven one (or maybe they have... but let me finish  ). They are a lot of fun to drive, and can be made to handle surprisingly well (for a solid-rear axle) while maintaining that straight-line performance you get with a 260 hp V8. :D
Even my '97 V6 stang was fun and felt much more secure in stock form through the twisties than my Elantra did stock. My point is that having the solid rear axle doesn't mean that it handles like a Buick. And people are willing to put up with the disadvantages simply because of the overall bang for the buck.
watson80 06-12-2004, 09:21 AM sorry for your luck......but I hope you have good times with your new car!
mcmmotorsports 06-12-2004, 10:59 PM Better pics in the AM coming. It is dirty cause it hasn't gone through new car prep yet. BTW, I don't care what anyone thinks, this car is the ****.

So are you taking it easy during the break-in period... or can you even restrain yourself? :)
