Need a wiring diagram for the 2000 Elantra

Hey Guys and Gals,

I finally got my alarm/remote starter in and I need to find a wiring diagram for it. Best buy wants 160 to install it, but I dont have the money or time to drop it off. So my dad, a friend, and myself will be doing it over the weekend. Could anyone point me into the direction of one. I tried the12volt.com, but the sites down.

don't trust the12volt.com. read my posts in the recent help thread regarding jumpman's remote starter install. those diagrams just say "red wire behind ignition switch". yeah, which one of about six red wires??? you'll fry your system trusting those diagrams.

what you need to do is learn how to use webtech. it's free and has every schematic you'll ever need for your year elantra. it tells you exactly what wires you need to tap into and where to find them. you just need to learn how to read schematics. but it's all there in the ETM section of webtech... what you need specifically are the pages for the starter system, the door locks, the brake lights, the ECU (might be called the EFI section), and the ETACS.

I found everything but the EFI, or ECU as it might be called, am I looking in the wrong place? Any ideas?

What kind of alarm/remote start is it?

In most cases installing it yourself with void any warranty that came with the unit.

Typical install takes 4-6 hours for a remote start and alarm for a shop, chances are you will end up spending about 10.

I'm not sure your experiance with electronics, but if you can't find diagrams I'm guessing its not that much. Alarms and Remote starts are not meant to be a DIY thing. Lets say something happens and you cross a wire, or short something out, hypotheically of course... Chances are real good it will cost more than $160 to fix, not to mention could fry whatever equipment you are using. Good shops, and not that I would trust worstbuy, but even they have insurance to cover anything that might go wrong, and your alarm will still retain whatever warrenty it has. Most Vipers and higher end alarms carry a lifetime warranty, if installed by a professional. I may sound like an ***, but there is a reson that there are MECP certified installers (like myself) to do this.
