Simple Green or any engine degreaser will work wonders for the dirt.. Just remember to cover the electrical components while you use the powerspray... Have fun

This is correct, you want to cover your Alternator, Coil, and battery.

When I did mine, I covered my aftermarket alarm, and if you have a cone filter you may want to cover that to keep it from getting too wet.

I also didn't let the degreaser sit too long before washing it off. After you wash it, remove the covers from those items and start the car, let it run for a while before you shut it off again, (somewhere around 5-10 mins) During that time you can polish up some of the things like hoses and wires. Just watch where you put your hands.

Be cautious when spraying the top of the motor. I cleaned my engine bay and water got down around the spark plug boots and carbon tracked two of my "100,000 mile" platinum plugs. These things are like $20 EACH! Use compressed air to blow any extra water out of the spark plug holes after you clean the engine!

I use the regular soap that comes with the high power wash. You don't want to get any other chemical inside the alternator. It will destroy the brushes.

Just leave your engine running while you spray it down. The only thing you need to worry about it spraying your air filter if it is exposed, you dont need to worry about the Battery, or the Alternator. Just make sure you leave your car running, never wash your motor while it is off.
