How long do you plan to keep your Elantra?

Well, until a couple of months ago, I wanted to replace it as soon as the Santa Fe is paid off (which is 4 years to go, ugg). Then I was thinking that I drive 7 miles to work... at that rate, the Elantra should last a hundred years. My new thought is to keep the Elantra and Santa Fe for work commuting until their wheels fall off, and buy a 3rd car for fun and going out in (Along the lines of a 3-series convertible, or couple-year-old Porsche). It just doesn't make sense to have a nice brand new car to drive 7 miles to work in.

I'm driving this thing until it falls apart. Hopefully that'll be another three or four years yet. Then I'll buy a used 2006 Sonata to replace it :p

well lets see for my car... i got the car to last through college so its going to last at least 4 years... but i really like this car so i'm going to keep her running as long as i can and mod it as well... i'd love to be able to hold onto this car as long as possible since it is the first car i purchased myself and holds a great deal of sentimental value :P

Well since I just got it and love the style and think its a pretty cool car for the pirce. I will probably keep it for a good amount of time.. Plus if I get more money I want to customize the hell out of it becasue I like to customize strange cars that not a lot people have..

probably another year or 2, I dont stick with a car for very long. I have had 4 cars since I turned 17 and I am only 21.

I said more than 5 years.
One of the main reasons I bought this car was to drive it. If after 5 years its still driving well then I will drive it longer.

Till the wheels fall off. Honestly, I dont think there are any other cars really that I do like, so once the warrenty wears off, i'll probably save up for a 5-speed swap and turbo.

im hoping that if i dont add many more miles and keep it in good condition, i can talk my brother into taking over the payments when he turns 16 next year and i can get something newer. it would be a good car for him as a first car, but what i will owe i dont think he'll want to spend, so we'll see. i did tell him i would match 10% of what he saved since my dad tends to buy 2-3 ****ty cars until he realizes to just buy a good car, so my brother learned this from 3 older siblings and is saving his $

I elected to go with More than 5 years instead of Until it dies simply because I'll know I want a new car before it dies. Whether it be an NF, the next Elantra, or whichever Hyundai.

$810.23 left on my loan. (60 months, and it's only been 39 months = that's why I have no mods).

I've had mine for 5 months, Paid it off last week, Mentioned to wife I was thinking about selling it and buying something...........She BLEW A Head gasket..... Said the Elantra is staying...
Looks like I'm keeping this one.

I will probably keep it for more than 5 years. I never drive it, it is 2 years 9 months old and I still have less than 11,000 miles on it. I will getting a bike as soon as we buy our house (which it looks like we have found one we like, so that should be pretty soon I hope), so I will use the car when it is raining and I am not driving the company vehicle.

Until I pay it off.....LOL! I figure keeping the car for at least 5-7 years, or longer if it's still in good shape.

I plan on keeping this as my commuter vehicle even after I get out of school. I am driving about 20k a year right now, and will be driving it at least 2 more years. I plan of getting another Jeep when school is over and will needsomething that gets good mileage as a daily driver.

I'd say within the next 12-18 months. By then the warranty will be up..... I'll either get that hot Accent 3dr or a Sonata GL depending on how the finances are then.

To be honest, I want my Elantra to be around forever. The styling is so hot compared to other 4 door sedans in the market.

My Elantra isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Who could possibly get rid of such a beautiful car.

I bought it in 2003 and I'll replace it in 2008. Most likely with another one. There isn't anything else available that can compete with it, unless Hyundai does something really impressive with a new Tuscani before then.

I will be buried in mine, or give it to, my boy or save it for a play toy.
Stilll thinking Exhaust and ZEX, maybe a 5spd swap if i can find a totaled one in a wrecking yard.

I've had my XD since November of 2002. (i bought it as a 2003 model).

I plan to keep it at least another 5 years....

I think as long as the engine holds up I should be ok with it... So far, the engine is working great ( I do 2000 mile oil changes ) and the body has no rust or problems... :)

um, i think they will transfer the title. seeing how im a cosigner, im pretty sure my dad can drop my name and add his. if not, theyll transfer the warranty. do you think theyd transfer the warranty between family members if they werent able to transfer the title?

SuperGLS
09-12-2005, 07:53 PM
You don't "transfer" the title, you "sell" the car to the other person for $1 and then you have to "transfer" the title. Done.

I'm keeping mine til hopefully 06/07. I wanna see if the new Elantra looks nice. If it does and it has the 2.4, I'm getting that sucker supercharged. If not, probably a Sonata.

I just bought mine in may.So with that long term financing,I might keep it til its paid off.Or maybe,I could trade it in on the new 2.0l s/c 3 dr accent when it comes out.

sorry guys, according to hyundai . . they do -not- transfer titles

you have to pay the car in full(not just a dollar) and then you get the title

ive tried taking this car from my mom a million times and eachtime i get the same answer "we dont transfer titles"

if you were to try and sell the car to a private individual, you couldnt do it because you dont have the title. you would have to request the title. they then request your full payment. then you get the title. ive tried it a bunch of diff ways since my elantra is in my moms name.

now, if evan is on the title with his brother, thats different but his bro isnt on there since he's not old enough.

the car will have to paid in full to get the title.

call hyundai and prove me wrong, i hope you can cause i want this ****bucket gone lol

seriously, i truly hope you find something different and get it in writing or something lol let me know please

Bought my '03 GLS 5dr in February '03. Traded in my '97 Elantra GLS. Both of these with automatic & sun roof. Had a '92 Elantra with 5-speed. before that. It would be nice to see hybrids by the time I'm ready to get an '08 or '09.

I have a year left to go 'till it's paid off.... I'll be looking to replace it if I can afford it.....

I put down that I'd drive my 02 GT until it dies... but last time my parents were up from Texas they loved it and want to buy it from me when/if I do get rid of it before it dies... so I may not have it until then. It's the nicest car I've owned or driven regularly in my 18 years of driving.

The funniest thing was when my mom drove it back from Monroeville to Bellevue on the Parkway. She said it felt like a sports car and was very zippy, and when I mentioned it even has decent pickup at highway speeds in fifth, she said "It has a FIFTH gear?" No wonder she thought it was zippy. :)

I'll drive mine for a few more years, I think. I am over trying to make it into a show car, and I think some of the mods may go soon.

I have a 12yr old that is chomping at the bit to have it, so I may just drive it till 2009 then and get me a new car.

For Evan to give his to his brother, they need to talk to whoever the financing is through or another bank, and get his brother appoved to buy it for what Evan still owes, once he has the finacing then they will trans the "title" to him. His brother then has a new loan for the car in his name.

No they won't transfer titles on a car that has a loan on it, but you can still sell it.

felixr

i just asked AGAIN this past weekend. they will NOT transf the title in any way untill the full amount is paid to hyundai motor finance

you can try to sell it 82 times if you want but untill you get the title (which you can only get by paying off the car) no one will buy the car from you. the only way to refinance is to finance with another bank and give hyundai the money you get from the other co. then they give you the title.

you cant sell the car for a dollar as was mentioned before, you can however, add someone to the title by them applying for credit with hyundai and being added on that way. otherwise, iron clad . . . sorry

I plan on keeping it until the engine blows up or the wheels fall off.

I think it all depends on how you financed it. I know I just got a check from my credit union, and gave it to the car dealership. The title is in my banks name. It has nothing to do with Hyundai anymore. It's between me and my credit union.

Right right, that's how I did mine. That's what I was thinking before he expressed it was through HMAF.

I think I'll be keeping my Elantra a little longer now. I'm getting a new manual transmission under warranty & opted to have them put a new clutch in since everything is apart. (Saved on labor down the road) The only major things left to do on my car are at the 60k mark which is still a bit off. The timing belt being the primary thing, also new spark plugs & wires. Since the warranty will be up I plan on using NGK plugs & wires then. Probably get the fluids changed & I should be good to go for a couple more years with minimum expense.

im stuck with this car until i hit the lottery or some ****, i dont really like it but i mod it anyway hoping one day i will like it. realistically as soon as i can trade it in for a 5-speed with leather that what ill do. i absolutely HATE the auto.
