I installed my hotshot header for 2.0 4cyl Beta engine today. The header is desinged for 4cyl Tiburon but this header also fits 2001~2003 Hyundai Elantras.
It only took 30 min to install..... Very nice~ No CEL, No problem~ :D

why would he get a cell??? there is a spot on the header for the o2 sensor...the second...never mind...you have to weld the 2nd o2 sensor behind the last cat...nevermind! ;)

Did you get rid of the fan or just the fan shroud? In some of the pics it look like you have no fan at all. Bet that will run REAL DAMN HOT! I guess ceramic coat will help a little bit with that. My Evo Fusion header jacked up my under hood temps big time.
The Hotshot header comes with a relocation kit for the 2nd 02 sensor and if he keeps the 2nd cat there should be no cel.

CEL shouldnt be a problem for mine...its got the O2 sensor installed..why would I have CEL on? I have been driving all night last night and no CEL....
The fan was removed during the installation for clearance to drop in the header. The was re-installed after... Removing the fan is easy(just few bolts)

That's a very nice looking setup. :) Looks like it protrudes a bit farther out than the stock header; No way to fit a custom heat shield in there, eh?

I'm goning to have to find my disk with the dyno sheet on it but on a completly bone stock tib we got 7hp gain. I dont have the TQ #'s.
people that have added this to an allready modified system say they love it. our test tib didnt get that much louder.

You just have to know the right people out here in So. Cal. Pretty much every Honda is riced out here so I'm sure there are quite a few places that will look the other way, but you will be paying a bit more than normal for a smog check.

Damn I love it here in beauiful Miami...he he. No smog laws here. We used to have an inspection here but the canned it like 3 years ago. Even then, the guys would ask if you needed help so long as you break them off wih $20 or sumthin.

I did some searching and the cheapest I could find this Header for is around $450. Kinda steep, but may be worth it if it has the good quality like you all are saying.

There was a group buy at NT.com that had them as cheap as 380ish I think, but that might be over.

I bet he has a cel. I went almost 1300miles (if I remember right) before I got one. I was just about to post about it when I got it. I know I have heard about others not getting one using some aftermarket cat, but the only seemingly certain way not to get a cel is to use the oem second cat the way evil and the others he has helped have done. I didn't do this because I want to retain all the oem parts just in case.
The hotshot headers will not throw a cel. They took the time to make a wiring kit for the 02 sensors to prevent this. That is one of the reasons they are more expensive than the rest.

What happens after the header/cat? Is there some kind of flange that connects these to the stock exhaust or does it require welding?
Header >> ?? >>Cat back
I'm close to getting a cat back exhaust with a magnaflow and I'm just trying to gauge whether I should hold off and get the header first.

the HS header bolts up to the mid pipe, so as long as you dont mess with the mid pip the CB will fit.
XDGT03
08-15-2004, 04:33 PM
How does the header have anything to do with the quality of exhaust after the cat? We have a heated o2 so it is always within op temp. I still want to hear whether he has gotten a cel using an aftermarket cat.

I installed my hotshot tonight (there were some left over from the NT GB and I snagged one for $360 shipped) there is a slight "rattle" at some points below 3,000 rpm. beleive it or not, I can feel a difference in acceleration. I'd say it adds about as much horsepower as a catback exhaust. it doesnt come with new bolts to bolt into the midpipe, and no new gasket to connect to the head (I dont think you really need a new one). so get yourself some bolts BEFORE you start. if you can find one for $360, I'd say its worth it. I didnt do the relocation for the 2nd O2 yet.

tharptroy, PLEAZ keep us updated on the CEL issue. There is no reason the header itself should have ANYTHING to do with whether or not a CEL is thrown cuz of "cat below threshold" I'll revise what I said earlier. No one has proven that they did not get a CEL other than Evil and those he helped. They used the oem second cat which is probably why. Evil also used hi-grade wiring which MAY have something to do with it as well. This was my whole purpose for my header update thread but no one with a HOTSHOT identified that they don't have a CEL even tho 4 or 5 people said they don't have one.
Still, that is one f'n nice lookin header.

I am going to try something a little different. one of the guys on the other forum I visit said to wrap part of the O2 sensor with copper and secure it on. I will wire up the extension for the 2nd O2 sensor when I have a custom exhaust made
I like it, I think it looks great and if there is no CEL it's perfect. Now in order for me to buy it, they need to drop the price at least 100 bucks from what you paid. The money you spend for the hp you get just isnt worth it.....(IMHO)

The reason why people are getting CEL's in the first place is the cats and o2 sensors are not hooked up. The second cat on the XD is not a true cat and will not get the readings the ecu wants if it is used by itelf. A high flow cat won't work either because the exhaust is still dirty according to the ecu. A regular cat converter should work.

OBX headers...designed by ricers, for ricers. it doesnt fot without modification, and if you get up close on it, the build quality is extremely ****ty.

It would appear that the header is a 4-1 design...isnt that more suited for mid-high RPM power gain (stick shift cars)? Or does a 4-2-1 design produce more high power gain.
Just askin cause I got the cheesy automatic!
XDGT03
09-20-2004, 07:50 AM
OBX is a fine header. Hotshot is probably better but no one has proven it. People put the header on and don't have a CEL and say , "WOW, this header is great and no CEL" BS, they have one now cuz they haven't been back since they posted that. I asked them and they wouldn't. Now the Hotshot header is damn nice. Fine quality, thicker material, better welds, etc... But where is the dyno saying it flows better? Anyone? You get 7-9hp from the OBX. That is documented. Will you get 12-15hp? 9-11hp? for 5 hp, $400-500 for the Hotshot makes sense. For 2hp, go with the OBX. But we don't know what the Hotshot gets cuz no one has dyno'd.
The ONLY people to have proven they do not have a CEL is Evil and the 2 or 3 people he helped. He used the OEM second cat and to this day, I believe he still hasn't gotten a CEL. That is now over 1 year since he put his in.
Stop putting out opinions as fact. It gives people wrong info and may keep people from modding their car because of cost. There are fine alternatives to the "pricey" parts out there. Stop knocking them. Many of them like the OBX header are tried and true. You know what you get and they work fine. Just cuz you can't afford the top of the line stuff, doesn't mean you shouldn't mod. You can have a lot of fun and get good power/torque/G's and durability with budget priced components.

if you had seen the OBX that I bought a while back, you would know why I say what I do. where pipes merge in the OBX, there is a significant amount of material overlap that blocks flow. for the OBX to work properly, It would have to be cut apart, then have the merges smoothed out, then rewelded. if you did that, it'd probably be as good as a hotshot. but when you look at the costs to make things work right, its really not all that much cheaper.
I still think paying 500 bucks for 7 horsepower is out of the question. That is paying 71 dollars for 1 horsepower. (not including shipping).
XDGT03
09-20-2004, 12:11 PM
Yes, mine had that same overlap. I have the 4-1 and you can reach it with a dremmel. The 4-2-1 you probably can't, at least the top section.
