I made my trunk only to be openable from my key today (yay finally) took all of 2 seconds..

1 - open your trunk (doh) look down at the plastic cover where the trunk lock(?) slides into..

2 -theres going to be 2 plastic screws holding it on, grab it by the edges and pull each one at a time then pull up on the whole cover and it will unsnap from the top (set it somewhere).

3 - theres going to be a wire with a ball going through this metal lever thing with a spring, pull the metal lever back and pull the metal string out.

4 - put the cover back on and go into your car and pull on it (nothing) :P wo ha **** you crooks trying to steal my subs.. (mine wont fit through the back seat so they are screwed! not to mention most crooks wont think about the seats foldin down)

dumb idea :abovelol:

If I wanted to steal your subs, I'd use a prybar to pop the trunk. Less noise than breaking the window to pull the trunk release hatch. I think this takes away a convienience, and you don't see any benefit from it.

i have the perfect idea..

WELD your trunk closed! now theres DEFINITELY no way to get to your subs! unless, of course, a thief carries a welding machine :)

The bottom line is that if they want your stuff bad enough, they'll get it.

I've heard of people's whole cars being towed away to chop-shops. It's much easier to tow the whole car and strip it in a safe place rather than stealing stuff out of it where it's parked.

Also, often if you make it too hard to take something, they'll just total your car or set it on fire 'cause they're pissed that they couldn't get your stereo or whatever.

I dunno, I'v done alot of reading on this and most of its random, most cars going to chop-shops are going to be honda's and more popular vehicles where they sell the parts off ya im sure its easy enough to pry to trunk open to but you gotta bring a crow bar. I plan on getting a new sensor alarm in the future hooked up to 2-3 horns

trust me i have seen enough cars broken into. if they want it they will get it or destroy your car trying to get it.

...And don't forget the release handle inside the trunk. The sub box might make it hard to get to that, but theoretically, they could break your window, lower the seats and pull the handle from inside the trunk.

My suggestion: Put your stereo equipment on your car insurance (most companies require additional coverage for large stereo equipment) - then you don't have to worry about it. If it's stolen, it's insured.

Thieves won’t think twice about the release inside the car. It is much easier to pop the trunk lock. If they want it bad enough they will get it. The best thing to do is be smart about who and where you play your stereo to. If they don’t know you have it they won’t be looking for it. Make sure to never play it pulling into a parking lot, never ever play it in your own neighborhood and be careful of the friends or acquaintances you show off to.
Some theft is random just because of the way the car looks but most theft is because they know you have it and they want it.

As a matter of fact, it's safer if you never play your stereo at all... ;)

All you are doing is creating the possibility of more damage to the car. But to open that trunk all you need is a long flat head screwdriver and channel lockers

And in my experience with thieves if they can’t take it they will damage it so you can’t use it. I had a sub box in one of my Blazers that was bolted to the frame and the subs put in with one-way screws. The thief couldn’t take them but he sure did cut the cones out of them.

yea, I guess if they want it that bad they can have it all my stuff is covered under insurance because I have the receipts (all of the stuff was bought online from cardomain and circuitcity)

I have USAA insurance full coverage ($$$).. what if the subs I had arnt made anymore (they arnt the new ones are $130 instead of the $60 I paid for them)

Just because you have the receipts and it's under full coverage, doesn't mean it's insured. Usually you have to carry 'stereo insurance' for subwoofers and amplifiers. They also need to be permanently attached to the vehicle - i.e. the box cannot just be sitting in the trunk, it needs to be bolted down.

my father called them awhile ago and they said we just need the receipts thats it, the amp is bolted in a custom welded bracket, there is noway to bolt the subs in it will just go through the carpet stuff..

There are plenty of ways to permanently or semi-permanently attach sub boxes to the elantra. I suggest you search.
