Ok here's the deal.
The 2nd oil change my car ever got was with Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30 & a pureolator pureone.

And the 3rd 4th 5th, etc etc.

And I've gotten too lazy too change the oil filter ever 2.5k, oil being every 5k.

I mean it's not that I don't want to, it's when I do I make a mess of my hands and then I have to top it off and why do that when I can just drain all the oil and put new in??

You guys know what I mean?

If I switch back to dino oil I'm probably going to also go to the OEM filter.
And I'll change my oil ever 2500-2800 miles.

Is there anything wrong with this plan?

yeah why not wait till 3,000 like everyone else or just let it go to 5,000 like the owners manual says?

Not unless you like having sludge and stuff build up over time, just keep the oil in there until the 5k like you want or the 7500 the manual specifies (to keep it in warrenty, afterwards to whatever milage the oil manufacturer specifies), change the filter and your good to go again (10k, 12k or 15k total miles on the oil depending on the oil you use).
btw which mobil 1 are you using? 5k 7.5k or extended (15k)? I suspect the mobil 1 clean 5000, in which case just switch over to the extended performance and use their brand oil filter, then change the filter every 7.5k .

The only things wrong is that you're wasting money and oil. There is no need to change your oil that often unless you're beating the snot out of your car. The manual specifies 7500 mile intervals and it's pointless to change synthetic oil any more frequently than that.

let's not start another "how frequently should i change my oil" thread. that question has been beat to death.

i agree with bnystrom, but to answer the original question, if you want to save money by switching back to dino oil and change it more frequently than you would with synthetic oil, that's fine. no damage is done by switching back.
