What Mods??

sorry... EF CAI, catback and headers, 8.5mm wires, new plugs and thats bout it

Should definitely be a lot better than that with those mods man! What kind of wires you have? I say, we need nothing better than stock, other wires could actually hurt the performance.
I went 15.1 with pretty much the same mods in my tib. Your 60' times are horrible. They should be at worst 2.3! Try different launching styles on the street and see which one works best for you.
How did you launch your car?

well i am not going to lie... i bogged off the line... i know i know i shouldn't and normally i can launch good practicing at stoplights and such but something about being there i was just nervous i was shaking so bad!!! i'll do better next time i know i can do a 15 something

always launch a little higher at the track than you would on the street, track is sticker. and if your bogging just increase your launch by 500 rpms each time get that 60ft down and youll be in 15's for sure

come next time and you can give me advice... plus we can race.. ;) don't worry i will... i'm too stubborn not to
Haha. That's what i fear also...the pressure and nervousness. I've never been in a situation like that before but i'm sure i'd bog like crazy. Kudos to you for having the nerve to go and try dude ^_^

I will try to make it next time. I want to wait for colder weather because I know I'm not gonna do much better at the same temps.
I could definitely give you some advices, but you gotta be able to master them. It's not gonna come with me just telling you, practice will make it perfect though :)
Try going a few more times, you will feel better each time, I think. I was never nervous, I just came and did it with every car I had.
Us racing would be quiet intersting.... hehehe :abovelol:

Where those times at Capitol Raceway (spelling?) I have seen some.... very quick times come out of that place. No offence odessit, if that was where I remeber you running your 15.1. The only reason I say that is every other auto elantra that I have seen a time slip for with close to similar mods was in the 17s, maybe upper 16s. There is a neon guy on hp.com that is running mid 14s on a very mild N/a tune up there. If Cypher did run there those there it would be the first set of lower than average times from that track Ive seen so far. Maybe you guys just really know how to drive in that area... Note: I am not in anyway calling BS on your times. Hell it might be a really good track. It depends on when the last time the big dragsters came out in houston if its going to be a good night or not. I ran a 16.8 on an accent with an SRI only with it being 95+ degrees ambeint air temps, so anything is possible. (As a note that wasn't the only time I did that time, just the only time I did that with it being that hot out. Track was being good to me and my 13 inch walmart tires. For those that dont know 1.6 accents avg. 17.2ish.)

Pretty sure that Cypher is 5 speed.
I had I/H/E and ran 16.6 on my XD at Capitol and then with I/H/E and 5 speed in my tib I ran 15.1 at the same place.
Capitol is not the best track, but it's not bad.

Sorry about being unclear. Yes I picked up on him being a 5spd. Hence me saying those times where a little slow for that track and his setup. If is was that track that will be the first times I have seen come from it that where slow. Normally the times coming from it seem faster than they should be.

yeah i have 5 spd... next time i go i might possibly be at a different track so i guess we shall see if something is up with that track... yeah i know its slow for what i have!!

Not making fun of you man. I didn't do to much better with around the same mods. Other than I have a SRI and no header (just a catback). Mine had alot to do with to much gas and really hot track temps. That and not knowing about the ecu reset at the time.

I found out that going to the track more than once will help you learn to launch. first time i went, i got real nervous, missed the light, bogged out, but recovered and managed to run a 16.658 w/ CAI and a can muffler & my subs in the trunk. went this year, cat back, SRI, no subs, worked on my launches (7 runs) and the best i could get out of it was a 17.5 or so. i did drive an hour there so the engine was hot as hell, but im gonna try to get out to the track w/in the next couple weeks before theyre done for the year, get the IM iced down, no subs, now have a 3" accord CAI, twm shifter...see what i can do. i tried warming up the tires before, tried not, hit some good lights (in my opinion...didnt bog down, had what i thought were good launches) but couldnt get anythign out of it. those are not bad times though. hopefully we can get out in PGH and see what we can do

Well, it's a rule that for every .1 second in 60' you shave off about 1.5 second in your 1/4mi. Given even 2.3 for 60', you should run 15.8 or so.
Nothing wrong with the track. Temps are still pretty high too.

Just as a note the r/t itself will not affect your e/t

In my defense, my only mod is a crappy sri... I had him off the line though :) dont worry jimmy, you'll get a lot faster than me next time as well...
OdessitPashka
09-21-2005, 10:39 PM
nothing really to be happy about... those 60' times suck *** and 1/4mi should be another second faster... and he better get into those mid 15s next time or I'm gonna take his car away!!!

i'll get his r/t down if he ever lets me drive his car....

R/Ts have nothing to do with your 1/4mi time. He needs to lover his 60'.
Cypher
09-21-2005, 11:31 PM
well a good R/T can't hurt at all now can it... and having a quicker R/T means off the line quicker which translates to lower 60' time correct?
OdessitPashka
09-21-2005, 11:38 PM
Good R/T will not hurt, but have nothing to do with your ETs. R/T is how long it took you to get your car from a dead stop to move an inch from the stage and your 60' times is the time that took you from that first move to a 60' line.
Cypher
09-21-2005, 11:43 PM
either way i am confident i can do a 15 something...

You better man! Just don't be so nervous and take your time at the light.
Give it enough gas, keep the RPMs steady, release the clutch almost to the point where you are about to move, and once you see last yellow feather the clutch by giving partial throttle and once you feel the car moving floor it man!

too far ahead for me to tell you man. I need to get my tires rotated to see if I can get better times with different tires. And I want to go when nights get to 45-55*
I'll keep you updated man or you just PM/IM me when you decide to go.

we rotated jims tires before we left, so thats not a prob, we could even do it at the track
