so tomorrow a friend and i will be heading to ubly raceway. 15.00 to race from 2-8pm. not bad. ive got everything installed that i needed to except the dayum a/f gauge (dont even say it) lol. got the trans cooler in, fresh plugs, fresh air filter, blowdown tube installed, jets for a 70 shot, and a full bottle.
ill remove the sub box and all non-essential weight (rear seat cushions, maby passenger seat if the lady doesnt come with me), everything i dont need.
i want to see what she'll run with a 70 shot. she loves the 50 shot and screams for more. im hoping for a mid 15. not sure about it tho, but who knows. lately the temps have been cool and i do notice a big change in the feel of the car.
i will reset the ecu before each run. i will do 1 run all motor, then the rest will be on spray, or untill the bottles empty. i will hopefully have some good pics and maby some video.
so, till tomorrow.

Good luck Dave, Im sure you will be able to get into the 14's if you get a good launch and use your bottle wisely.

good luck, let us know how you do ,can`t wait to hear your 70shot storys. I got 65shot jets in and full bottle, and i got a tick in engine, sounds like a rocker noise, but it got no rockers, hope to geet the feeler gagues out today and check clearance, if I can`t figure it out I will remove zex and go for warranty work. 44,500 on my 2001, NICE will keep you posted

i have the same thing. but its not motor noise. its the stock manifold and the cat on it. it makes the noise (kinda like a creaking noise). get under your car in front and listen real closely. (dont get burnt tho). i had the car on the lift yesterday and had the techs verify it for me. i work with some guys that race pro up here, so they help with questions i have. i had the look at my plugs after 2 bottles and they said they liik AWESOME!!! just the way they should look.
just waiting for friend to finish up with work. picked up the jets a bit ago and a fresh full tank. plus the air temps are cool today so that will help also. he needs to hurry the f' up and call me already. if my lady goes with, i may let her make a pass (without spray). this will be the 4th time someone other than myself has driven my car. that way she gets to have a little fun.
that 3800 hesitation better go away when i reset the ecu, or my times are going to suck!!
alright guys, ive got to start removing seats and all the extra weight. later

ok I found it i had the fuel line cliped to firewall and the pules of the fuel pump made sound like tick tick, put 3/8 rubber hose around all lines, and put rubber gromit behind zex control unit. nice and quite,SO HAPPY not in engine.also had a full tank,2 shots down, still kickin ***. :D

ok guys, im back. good times. ran about 12 or so runs. the car screamed!!!!!!! my best time was a 15.51. not to bad. i did not remove any weight from the car. i raced it like i drive it everyday. i tossed in the 80 shot jets, well the nitrous jet(43) and a (23)fuel jet. normally i would have put in the 25f jet, but that damn hesitation is pissing me off. i have a theory about the hesitation now after running today and inspecting things under the hood. ill get to that later. my best reaction time was a .048, im real pleased with that. i sprayed from the launch, it gripped with out any problems at all. just a minimum ammount of wheel spin. nothing bad tho. i sprayed every run. i think i went thru the tank, but driving home i sprayed a couple times so theres a little left. my best 60' times was 2.31. i can keep up out of the hole, but not in the top end.
all in all i had a lot of fun. i have a video of me running down the track once (that was difficult, concentrating on the run and holding the damn camera). i have to figure out how to upload it on the host site then link it to you all.
here are some pics of my slips.

i wish i had taken out all the weight. i would have ran a 15.3. but im happy with that.
and i doubt ill make it to the meet.
cypher, i will need your old front strut mounts. i am going back to stock. selling the car. you can ship them to me anytime, or i can take my old ones off the set-up you bought from me. let me know.

when I had the 80 shot on my J2 elantra auto, I ran in the 14's... strange...
be sure to change that fuel jet back up to a 25... that 23 is too lean for an 80 shot... you are right on the virge of melting a valve or piston :(
(check your PM, I replied with the troubleshooting to find the reason for the fuel puddling in your air filter ) ...
#1. possibe leaky / defective fuel solenoid.
#2. Nozzle is pointing the wrong way (perhaps it has shifted or rotated on its own)...
Check it out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you have another pm ford, and thanks for the help
yamaha
09-25-2005, 08:15 AM
I was suprised to see you didnt run lower Dave. On the zex website they have a hatchback Honda that was running 12's with a midly modded motor. Im sure you would be able to shave a few tenths off that.
Ford, what your J2 auto or manual? What else was done to it to get it to run 14's?
aLoNe I bReAk
09-25-2005, 09:27 AM
Ford said his j2 was an auto. And I'm going to have to agree with yamaha here, that I'm also suprised to see your times not lower. My best pass was 15.8 @ 89.8mph with a 2.407 60' time. I only have CAI, exhaust (with STOCK manifold and first cat), Ported IM/TB FF style, and a twm. A 15.51 seems a little slow to me with zex? What other mods do you have?
2loud2k2xd
09-25-2005, 10:01 AM
300lbs of audio weight, 18" rim rotational mass weight, sri, stock manifold w/ full gutted exhaust to the muffler. check out my member profile. mod list is in there. 3800 hesitation sucks man. all lower end, no top end from it.
OdessitPashka
09-27-2005, 02:49 AM
I think I missed it, but did you remove your audio stuff?
Those 18s are killing you!
60' can be improved and you should run lower times. I had the same trap speed on my tib with 15.1 runs, so you should run low 15s at least looking at your trap speed.
Over all, times are dissapointing. With 80 shot my tibby should have been in 13s all day. Too bad I never got to install my kit :(
2loud2k2xd
09-27-2005, 06:52 AM
in a week or so, if the car is not sold, im heading back out for another try. all the weight will be removed. all seats and audio. then i should run a low 15. the thing that makes my times ****ty is when it shifts into 3rd, there is no pick up in power. i can see and feel it. in the video link i put up, listen real closely, you can hear the shifts. listen for 3rd, you can hear it not really picking up speed (engine).

Dude, you need to get your ECU reflashed. Its about 30 beans at the dealership for them to do it.

Dude, you need to get your ECU reflashed. Its about 30 beans at the dealership for them to do it.
i had the redlash done already about a year ago. and the dealership wants 180.00 to do it again. out of warranty. unless its considered part of the powertrain
only1db
09-27-2005, 02:24 PM
i dont care what they say...that reflash doesnt do a damn thing!! i have had it done by three different dealerships...nothing....after 3000 miles...it comes back!
300lbs is a hefty weight penalty...that can easily slow you down by a second

300 LBS will not add 1 second. for every 100 LBS you remove, you will save .1 second on a 1/4 mile. meaning 300 lbs out will save .3 second. a low 15 would be reasonable
Cypher
09-27-2005, 03:41 PM
i think he could hit a high 14 if he dumped the weight... you gotta have faith evan its not like its impossible just highly improbably;)
2loud2k2xd
09-27-2005, 04:45 PM
****, ill throw in a 100 shot and do a mid to high 14. then ill probably toast the motor and trans. i dont think i could do that to her tho. and the golden rule for every 100lbs its 1/10 of a second. (evans right....for once, lol).
and the reflash is **** too. it doesnt work. need kdm ecu to solve prob i think. i was told even the kdm ecu's have the fault in them too.
ilan, nice movie clip. i want a sub 15 run. time to gut her of the extra weight next time i run. seats and all...and ill go on a diet. lmoa
hmmm, maby this weekend :)

09-27-2005, 05:32 PM
Actually Evan is wrong :)
Rule of 100lbs for .1 of a second applies to the cars that weigh about 3400-3600lbs. Once you get into 2500-2600 it's completely different. Check out the calculators at the top of the page.

maybe a bottle heater might help. I want one and I need a pressure gauge too, but You will find the rights jets and get some better times.
evan938
09-27-2005, 06:24 PM
well, i would still be right. the hatch is 2900lbs, 300lbs audio, 160lb driver, 18" rims (probably pushing 45+ lbs) nitrous bottle, dynamat, puts it right at about 3400 lbs
thank you :)
OdessitPashka
09-27-2005, 06:35 PM
Hatches are that heavy? god damn! I think my tib with me on the race days was like 2600-2650lbs. I know that with the removed weight I shaved off at least .3 seconds and I only took out 120lbs or so.
evan938
09-27-2005, 06:44 PM
yeah. hatches are 2900lbs, sedans are about 2650 (i think)
2loud2k2xd
09-27-2005, 07:53 PM
well, i would still be right. the hatch is 2900lbs, 300lbs audio, 160lb driver, 18" rims (probably pushing 45+ lbs) nitrous bottle, dynamat, puts it right at about 3400 lbs
thank you :)
actually, the rims weigh 21lbs+tire, 175lbs driver, 300lbs audio, + dynamat material, +20' 0ga wire and all other wiring (about 70lbs)+1/2" mdf amp racks and trunk liner, + bottle.
and i have all the jets to spray from a 50 shot to a 80 shot. i also have a pressure gauge but no bottle heater. when we took a break, i opened up the hood and layed a towel on the engine to warm it up. then put it around the bottle. cheap way, it may not even have done anything, but to warm the bottle. i also had the airtemp dial hot and it venting on the feet. get a little warm air around the bottle.
ill head back out if i still have the car in a week or so if the tracks are still open. this time ill strip out the entire car (everything but the door panels. lol

went back to the track last night. the buyer didnt show up yesterday, so i wanted to have some fun. it was COLD!! outside and the track was not hooking up for me. kept the heater on and bottle pressure was about 900psi with a full tank. well, it even figures that we were running into a nasty headwind. well, once again i left all the weight in the car. its too much of a PITA to remove everything. i wont put up my times cause their dissapointing, real dissapointing. i figure its because of all the wheel spin from the hole and the huge headwind. but i did get a .0114 reaction time in bracket racing :D thats my best reaction time yet. ok, here are my time from last night. 16.1 1/4 mile. like i said, it was COLD!!! and i could not hook up at all. spun 1st and squeeked 2nd. :(
oh well, i was running my friends 5.0 on the way back, from 70mph i took him while i was spraying to about 90mph. from 50 mph, he took me by a 1/2 car to 70mph. im waiting for him to get his g/f 03tib gt out so we can run them today.
