View Full Version : Amp cutting out?
Ok, at the last meet jimmy and steve were freaking saints so as to re-wire my subs and make them actually work and tune them, and I thank them both for it greatly, but now theres a problem...
While my bass is enough to rock the car when its on a slight incline and stopped, after say, about 10 min of it playing, I just lose the subwoofers. I have no idea if the amp is over-heating and shuts off, or what...any ideas?

more then likely its shutting off because steve turned the power up too high or just try turning down the bass setting on your stereo in the car should fix it my mtx did that when i had it

or they re wired it to a ohm level that the amp is not stable at and your over heating.

yeah, i DEF turned the amp to full power. easiest thing to do is to buy a new amp. when i turned down the amp lower then anything, (i had wired BOTH subs to one connection) they barely hit at all. u can turn it down a little bit, but it still will overheat. thats the problem, its overheating and it has an auto shut off to protect itself. kinda like ur car, computer, what not. buy some cheap one for like 150 or something. make sure u get a 2 channel, not a 4 channel like u got now. its pointless and u lose more power with 4 channel, unless u get 2 more subs or connect up ur back speakers.

if you want a descent amp for little money check out profile amps on crutchfield.com. Their monoblock amps are sweet i have one right now pushing 3 10's really nice. And the best part they come with a 3 year warranty from crutchfield.
Awesome, thanks guys! It does seem to last if I turn it down, so thats what im just ganna do, cause even with the bass knob turned all the way down they still hit decent. I don't think im going to be getting rims anytime soon, so I guess thats about $400 or $500 for some new audio equipment...

lol yeah even with the bass knob turned all the way down its still going to hit hard. the bass knob has barely anything to do with the sub tho. depending on what head unit u have, u may not have any other way to turn down ur amp besides crawling in ur trunk and fiddling with the knob that says "power" on the right side. should take like 1/4 turn of a flat head to make that work. it would be better to get someone who knows what they r doing around u to do it, cause my first time was funny (on cyphers car) took me a day or so to learn how to adjust the amp and head unit to flow together. but ask cypher, it was some of the best sound we had heard. :D

hmmm seems to me like they bridged them on a not-so-stable impedance rating
Or it could be that its on an amp I bought off this kid who was using it to power two 15"s and a bunch of 6x9's...that could be it... :)
