Hi, i own a 2004 Aussie Elantra, Long story short, the dealer
damaged my car but they are denying it  but that is
only 1 part of the problem  please read, sory its a long
story.
After a whole year of bad customer service, not returning any
of my phone calls, and not following up on problems i had and
blantant lying to me, i wrote a letter to Hyundai Australia.
It took two weeks and a guy from Hyundai Australia Phoned
me and told me that he had sorted out my situation with the
local dealer and they will be fixing all my problems.
These problems include: Rattles in door pannels and dash
Faulty clutch swich
Faulty indicator cut-off
Hand brake/Reverse Fouling
Faulty key signal receptor
Within 10 mins of talking to the guy form Hyundai Australia
the local dealer phoned and booked my car in.
They took the whole day on my car 8am-5.30pm, when i
picked my car up there was only 1 person there, he was
closing the shop up.
i got my car home and noticed the damage they had done
to my dash and stock cd player.
They had wiped some chemical over my dash to clean it,
but it has eaten all the shiny coat off the plastic, they
put gouges in my cd player trying to get the small facia
trimm off and put it back on upside down
I immedieatly phoned Hyundai Australia and complained,
i was told to take the car back to get the dealer to fix
it, however when i did the service guy was a dick about
it
1. He denyed touching the dash, but he told me they fixed
rattled under the radio, now he tells me that they did
not remove the dash fascia
2. He admits they removed the radio, and accept puting the
cd player trim on incorrectly but denys that they put gouges
and marks on the cd player
3.He accused me of the stains on the dash and marks on the
cd player
4. He told me that im expecting too much from a Hyundai Car
5. He ridiculed where i work and the quality of work we do
6. Told me that he dosent want to work on my car again
7. Told me that they spent a whole day on my car and they
wernt getting paid for it.
He said all this when HE DIDNT ACTUALLY WORK ON IT
he just works on the service desk.
Now after this i went home and phoned the guy from Hyundai
Australia and told him what happened, he said that he was
coming to have a meeting in a month or two with my dealer
regarding multiple complaints, now he will be here in 2 weeks
and wants to have a meeting with me.
I got his email address off him and put my complaints in words
and emailed him the pictures of the damage
Here are the pics:
1. Marks and stains on the drivers door

2. Stains and marks all across the dash

3. More stains and marks around the air vents

4. 1,2&3 are gouges and 4 is the trim bulging out around the radio

5. Scratch on passenger door

6. Another shot of the CD player + marks above on fascia

7. Smear stain accross the fascia under spedo

Opinions please

I didn't read everything, but can't you just clean the stains and marks?
I can't see anything on the headunit.
And, I would definitely get the passenger window switch trim replaced by them, somehow.

The close up pics of the h/u are a bit blurry, but you can surely
see the gouge in the circle labled 1 and how the small trim was
left bulging out at the top - 4.
i have tried to clean but they dont come out. whatever they have
used has eaten the shiny coat off the plastic.
Please also read his comments to me
Sory its a long story, but its hard to briefly explain

I sprayed lysol into one of my side vents one summer, because I was getting that post-A/C B.O. smell, and it ate the clear stuff right off the plastic. It was kind of white-ish for a few days, it was really, really strange.

Leviathant- yea? so, did it eventually go away? did you polish
it with some kind of interior protectant?
does my dash look similar to the effect of the lysol?

get a good plastic trim cleaner and see if it works. mige fix most of it. But the dumb *** couldn't figure out how to get the radio out short of pulling the dash so he tried to pry it out lol. Most of the gouges look like a screw driver right around the radio trim ring lol. After you had problems the first time why not go to a diffrent one. MY dealership tried that with me so i left and went to another dealership 5 miles farther away but i'm waited on hand and foot .

Sorry you're having such a hard time -- at least the regional Hyundai rep is willing to listen to your complaints and take them seriously. It sounds like your local dealer is just a dick.
I thought they get paid from Hyundai corporate to do warranty work, so the dealer might be lying about that -- ask the regional Hyundai Australia representative when you see him.
It does look like it might be solvent marks on your black plastic trim -- I work with solvents all day in the lab and have seen the same thing when solvents meet incompatible plastics.
Try Armor-All or another vinyl/interior plastic protectant spray.

i can understand the frustration from you twords your dealership. around where i live, there are 4 hyundai dealerships. well, 3 of them i am no longer welcome there because of their incompetint employees. i called them out on alot of problems and i told them how to fix them. they didnt know how to fix the problems. the 4th one is a brand new dealership, and they are pretty cool so far. i just dont go to any dealerships because i get the same thing, " dude, its a hyundai, what do you expect?". this is another reason why the xd is being sold.
i feel your pain. hyundai dealerships (in general), just dont care or have knowledgeable techs that can find, diagnose, and fix problems. i had to pull up the 3800rpm auto trans hesitation TSB for them because they didnt know about it:(
as far as the trim pieces. try warm water and a mild degreaser (dawn dish soap, simple green) and wipe it down gently. this may remove the stain on the surface. the trim ring around the radio is an easy fix, remove the ring from the radio and install correctly. it looks like it didnt snap in correctly. the pass side trim will need replacing because of the scratch.
good luck man, i hope the dealership comes thru for ya.
btw: i have the dsm (district service mgr) personal cell # from past issues with BS dealerships. i call him before i bring the car the any dealership. he gets things done for me. maby its because he kinda likes what ive done to the car.

It definitely reminded me of what happened to my vent. Although it was more "complete" for me. It kind of looks washy, swishy, can't find the word. Buggered ;)
The white eventually kind of went away, but the part never returned to its original luster. Oh well.

That really sucks and I hope that everything gets resolved. For the stains on the plastic, try some windshield washer fluid. It's got some methanol in there, but it's dilute and shouldn't cause further damage. Then finish with armorall as suggested.
But once things get resolved, I really think you should look into getting stuff done at another dealership now, unless that's the only one around you... I've got 3 or 4 Hyundai dealers within a reasonable driving distance... Luckily the dealer I purchased through has a good service manager (I drop the car off 1st thing in the morning, and then pick it up after work, which is after the service area officially closes, but he sticks around for me... pretty cool!) so I don't need to swap... yet...
Can you get the crap resolved at another dealership, even if it was caused by the 1st one? I'd tell the Hyundai rep that you've had enough with this place, but Hyundai is going to fix it one way or another, and the other way is at another dealership.
Anyways, good luck!

If you need maximum shine on the plastic areas, there is something extreme that you can try... and I take no responsibility for any possible damage or extreme shine that may result..
Go to the autoparts store and buy a spray bottle of tire shine fluid.
Spray that either directly onto the affected/dull areas and rub it down with a clean towel/rag ... you can also just spray the rag and then wipe the area down but you won't get as much of the shine into the plastic like that...
Good luck !!!

You know someone once told me this: "What do you think it is, a Lamborghini?" And I would complain till I was blue in the face - "but it's MY lamborghini."
Now I understand the dealership screwed you around, and from the pics everything on there is absolutely disgusting and I would be so pissed too. When I bought my car I was the same way, very very anal (for lack of a better word) about the way the car looked, the slightest problem with it and I would go beserk. But I learned once things get taken apart a few times, it never goes back the correct way and look perfect. You can complain and complain but it won't do any good because these are one of the cheapest cars out there and the dealers know it, not to mention the mechanics that work on the car know it too....which is prolly why they don't give a rats ***.
I'm not trying to downplay the fact that your car got put through the ringer as far as how well the repairs went. But so far these complaints from what I read are all cosmetic right? For me, if I didn't give more slack about the way my car looked I would have a nervous breakdown, because you know what....it's not a Ferrari or a high end car that people would wear gloves around and be meticulous on the way you would if you did the work yourself. It's not pieced together with millimeter precision and the guy removing the radio was the only thing he knows how to do on the car.
Sometimes the buck has to stop and you might decide it stops here. I personally wouldn't go back to that dealership if you can avoid it and have a choice to go to another one (or request the work be done elsewhere by Hyundai Australia). You can complain to have the whole dash replaced if they will do it, or live with the scars or fix it to the best of your ability.
Now if you have mechanical problems and the car isn't performing as it should, we have a different story. The service guy there treated you absolutely horribly with his backtalking and I would be writing a letter copying his boss and Hyundai Australia which might give him a good talking to about customer service and hopefully fired :)

i never had a warranty but i believe if they messed it up they should be the one to replace it. so what if its one of the cheapest cars you can buy? i still love my car and i detest anything going wrong with me or looking poorly. if they damaged it they should be the one to fix it they are a hyundai dealer and as such should know how to work on their own cars. to me it matters not that its one of the cheapest cars real businesses know that no matter what the product you have to stand by it and treat it with care if you want repeat customers or want them to send potential buyers your way so they should give a rats ***

When the guy from Hyundai Australia phoned me i got his direct
number from caller ID. each time i ring i get straight to him, he
told me that there has been numerous complaints about my
dealers customer service and they were having a meeting about
it, now the date for it has been brought forward and i have been
invited to a part of the meeting
The closest dealer is 1.5Hrs away
What has been done is horrible, they obviously have no respect for
customers car/property, it annoys me that he denies that they
touched my dash when the dimmer was somehow turned down, the
air vents were half closed off and pointiong all over the car and
the clock had been reset.
Words that come to mind are, buggered, rooted stuffed f***ed ;)
I dont want to touch or try to clean my dash untill the guy from
Hyundai Australia comes down.
My car cost me $20,000 aussie, its not exactly a cheap car for me
ive only had it for a year too, i can understand if it was 5+ years old
and has some wear, but this is ridiculous.
If this does not get followed up i will go out of my way to tell people
not to buy, or service a car there. I like my Elantra but this has me
thinking that i will never own a Hyundai again

Exactly. Don't mess with it at all till the rep comes down. It is cosmetic and will not hurt anything till he comes.

Hopefully the rep can get it taken care of, they do have quite a bit of power from corporate.

Wow, past complaints...that's never good. Maybe they'll just do a big overhaul there after the meeting and change some attitudes and some people at the same time.

*** UPDATE *** UPDATE *** UPDATE ***
I not long ago recieved a call from my dealer, he said that they
wernt busy today and wanted to replace my trim. :D
Wow, what a difference 3 working days makes when you email
the rep with pic's of the damage.
I just took my car back there, and the guy that has been handling
my complaints wasnt there, so i couldnt ask what they were
exactly replacing.
Also i wonder if they will go ahead and finish fixing the handbrake/Center
console that was to be done under warranty last time?
Anyway, only time will tell, ill keep you all informed

WOO HOO!!!!!
Finally a result (sorry this message is delayed)
My dealer has replaced my headunit with a new one, replaced my
dash facia, and replaced both of my front door pannels including
power window swiches on both sides (even though there was
nothing wrong with the driver swiches) :D :D
As i said before, what a difference it makes when you get the
regional rep involved :D :D :D

Hopefully the dealer will learn some manners out of this....
and I REALLY hope they didn't sabotage the car in another way to get back at you....
