Hi all. I want to put in some tweets in my 05 Elantra, in the black door piece by the door handle, where the piece kind of turns and the tweet would be facing the driver. I thought I would have to cut that hole, but my boss has an Elantra with tweets in that exact spot from the factory! His Elantra is a few years older than mine, but I don't know what year (neither did he, WTF?). Anyone know what years/models these pieces came in, and will they bolt on to my 05? They look identical to mine, and would hopefully be cheap, since they are a small plastic piece. Any help?
mine is an 02. i have the tweeters. should fit perfectly. get it from the dealer, its not inexpensive

You can go to an auto salvage yard and get them off of any 2002-2004 Elantra GT, or from a 2001-2004 Elantra GLS with the upgraded audio system. You should take the whole black plastic piece of the door around the tweeter and door handles, not just the ~2" round tweeter grills.
Just be careful to not remove the ~2" round tweeter grills from the outer plastic piece -- the tabs that hold the round tweeter covers in break very easily.

i have the stock tweets also. considering they are lame tweets with an in-series resistor to act as a make-shift x-over, i would say they are pretty worthless lol

I simply upgraded the whole door panel, but that's a more expensive route.
Try AHI or a local junkyard if you don't want to pay dealer prices.
Also, from what I understand, having the tweeters face the passengers isn't the best for sound quality, so the OEM design is fairly ineffective for sound and I think they were just put there because that's where they'd fit and look nice.

They are ok in the factory spot for the average Joe. They are not even close to perfect for any true audiophile or someone who competes. They fire almost directly at the listener nearest to them and that is not ideal unless you are just trying to blast highs at your friends.

Does anyone have some of these panels they would like to sell? The dealer wants $100 for them.
