You all may know this already, but just driving around town yesterday, I saw several 'different' hyundais I hadn't seen before.

a Lantra (I thought maybe someone dropped the E on an OLD elantra)
a Getz (newer looking car..) copy shortcut and paste to see me (http://www.autogaleria.pl/tapety/img/hyundai/hyundai_getz_2002_01_b.jpg) http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:v9LKHm4fLK0J:us1.webpublications.com. au/static/images/articles/i16/1658_2mg.jpg
a Matrix (not made by toyota) http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:P-CSmQvOyCkJ:www.in.gr/auto/dokimes/pr_dokimes_in/Hyundai_Matrix_1600/big/in_hyundai_matrix_17.jpg

and a couple of big 4x4's that I didn't catch the name of.

The old Elantras were called Lantras over there.

The Getz, from what I understand, is rapidly becoming Europes best selling small car. It's also very popular in Australia. I wish they brought it here.

The Matrix, or Elantra LaVita, is a based on the Elantra/Tiburon platform.

The SUV's would have probably been the Terracan and possibly and old Galloper (although I'm not sure they were sold in Europe or not).

The Story of Lantra.
In 1991, Hyundai Australia (& various European countries) were forbidden to name their popular mid-size sedan 'Elantra'
The evil giants of Mitsubishi blocked the name declaring it was "too same of Elante" (what hunks of junk those cars were, the old TN & TP magnas...)
Thus, Hyundai declared they would drop an E, for good times, and call it 'Lantra'.

However, down the line, justice was in store for Hyundai fiends around the world, when the Elante name was forever ended from Mitsubishi's evil range after the TJ Magna was released in 2000.

Hence, from 2001, coinciding with the brand spanking new XD Elantra series, Hyundai was given it's naming rights back and everyone lived happily ever after.

As for the Hyundai Matrix, over here, that car shares the same name as ours. It is called the Elantra Lavita and has that crazy toyota echoish interior.
