I love the car; frustrated with the dealer and the company. Since I first started thinking about buying a car in June, they were offering $1250 cash back on the Elantra. I finally get my sh!t together this month and guess what: incentive is down to $500. I'm just as mad at myself though; I should have bought earlier.

The dealer was weird, too. I kept saying "I want floor mats." Every step of the way: "I want floor mats." The final paperwork is written up and guess what? No floormat cost included. So I ask whether they are giving me them for free and they answer that, well, maybe they can give them to me at their cost. As an option on the car, they are $75, I think. Their generous offer is selling them to me at their cost. Mighty big of them. You would think it was, with how magnanimous they were about it. Like it was some great deal. But they said they would have to ask the parts dept. what their cost was. I had to leave to get somewhere and the salesman said he would let me know what their cost was.

I bought the car Friday, went back on Saturday with a friend to pick up my other car, and asked the salesman what the cost was. He still didn't know. Monday comes and goes- nothing. I finally decide he's not gonna call, so I go to the local dealer (the car I bought was at a dealer 40 miles away) and decide the heck with it and bought the mats for eighty something dollars.

The next day, salesguy calls back and says even though their cost is $73 and change, he's willing to give them to me for free. So I take back the mats to the other dealer and get a set of sh!tty cheapo mats at Wally-World for $4 until the mats come in and I can get there to pick them up. 40 miles away. For free. Well, not exactly free; at about $.10/mile for gas, it's gonna cost me $8 round trip.

I know, not as bad of a problem as the guy who got rear-ended and is without a car, but that's my beef. So there.

Gotta love dealers :) When I walked home with the paperwork I reviewed it and reviewed it, ran it over in my sleep...woke up and thought...omg they jipped me. I paid too much for the car...look it's written wrong. Unfortunately for me I came to this site and although hard to compare Canadian to American pricing/options, blah blah, figured out I paid...WAY too much for the car...I felt like such poo, but I settled down and made myself feel better saying it's the best I could have done after doing my research and calling and comparing other local dealers. Tip: have 2 dealerships that you go to in case you have to for warranty work, etc. You'll want that second opinion from the other Hyundai shop when the time comes.

At least they're supposedly giving them to me for free; I don't know why they couldn't just throw them in at the time, though. And although I have to drive out there to get them, I may be able to combine that with another trip in that direction that I'm making anyway, so it would really cost me that much in gas.

Oh... the kicker: The guy says, "We can give you the mats for free, on one condition: That you promise to give us all 5s on the dealer evaluation from Hyundai." I agreed, and I'm a man of my word. So assuming the mats thing works out, I'll plug my nose and check all 5s, viewing it as a simple quid pro quo. I will rate them 5s, but if there is anywhere for comments, I may be a bit more.... um.... frank. :diablo:

XTRWLD- I looked at your car pics; I like the interior accents, but I only saw one pic of your interior (through the open driver's door). Do you have any other pics of your interior & dash?

wow.... the fact that they are bribing you to give them 5's on the survey is a sure sign that they don't deserve that rating.... even without the story you just told....

I say rate them how you feel they should be rated... and make sure you tell Hyundai that they bribed you for 5's

Heh. Korea rules. I had two options. Air conditioning and an automatic transmission. ..I.. to the auto. Cool cool summer. :) Also the guy who sold me the car gave me a skipping rope (?), a shirt and a brush for cleaning dust off the car the last time I saw him after he drove me around to the DMV and took me to get new plates, when one of my dumbass neighbors peeled off my front one.

Also, the service guys installed two rear stabilizer bars (the ordered the wrong one fist time) for me for free and gave me the parts at cost. (They were scratching their heads about it "Why does this crazy white guy want a Tuscani bar of his Avante?... Oh well, just give it to him and maybe he'll go away.")

I agree. If you feel required to give them all fives since you gave them your word, go ahead, but definitely add a comment that the only way they'd give you the floormats for free that they fogot to put in the original purchase is if you gave them all fives.

The dealer I've bought both my Hyundai's from gives you 10 free oil changes if you give them all 5's. It's worth it, especially because they are a good dealer for sales.

My dealership just begs people to give them high scores, nothing in return.Maybe the occasional free oil change. Then the General manager just *****es about service policy being too high and that he aint paying for all these free oil changes.Go figure, that comes out of his bonus

They gave me one free oil change, but that's just as well, since they are 40 miles from home and I rarely go that way anyhow.

I talked to the salesman and he said the floor mats were in as well as the license plates. So I should be able to get them before I pick up my son from the airport.

Got the floormats, got the license plates. I'm happy. Everyone at the dealer really was fine, except for the one guy I walked out on.
