lately ive been thinking about ditching the bypass valve that i have. i dont see a need for it as it doesnt flood or anything around this area.. or hasnt yet at the very least. im just trying to find out who uses a bypass valve w/ their cai and who doesnt

like stated by many of the fellows on the site already you only need to worry about hydrolock if you're fully submerging your filter which would be pretty hard to do and if its flooding would you even go out driving anyway? has texas ever gotten a flood? just stay away from high water on the left side of the car and i wouldn't worry about it

lol we havent gotten a flood.. im leaning more towards the "why waste my money on this" mindset because i dont think i have a use for it

After spending $5000.00 on a new motor, I wouldn't drive my car with out a bypass valve.

I want one. I live in the mountain area, where when it rains, roads flood. So even though I dont drive in heavy rain when i can help it, it would be just nice to have.

Just put the air filter next to the battery above the fender and you don't have to worry about a bypass valve.

No for me. I figure I'll have to be in a couple feet of water before it floods, and we've had some heavy rains but nothing has happened yet. AND my filter sits decently close to the road too, right in front of the front tire.

ok cool thanks for your input everyone! i wont be using mine because of the way the filter sits. theres a hole in the bumper in the front and on the CAI DIY page it shows the filter directly behind it.. where you can see the filter through the hole. the way mine is set up the filter sits directly above the hole and you cant see it whatsoever.. and yeah i dont plan on driving through water up to my neck

I hope that wasn't on an XD. Those motors are for sale on ebay for under 500 bucks all day long.

It was for the elantra. Insurance paid for most of it and it came with a decent warranty.

just like it never rains in arizona, of course i didnt drive through a flood or a huge puddle, but i got hydrolocked, which sucks, but i learned even living in the damn desert a bypass valve isnt a bad idea............

We get over 40" of rain in this area per year. We'd have to get 1/4 of that at once for it to really become a problem, and although that could happen, it doesn't, and therefore I don't have a bypass valve.

but the bypass only works if your entire filter is submerged.. so if half of it is submerged it wont work.. meaning you can still get hydrolocked w/ the bypass if enough water gets in there
