i think you need to cut out some of the bumper and lift it up some. thats the ****ty thing about XDs is the rear bumper has no place to tuck an exhaust into

what evan said.
looks nice though it would look better tucked in
what would they have todo to tuck it? take off the plastic and weld to frame? ya I think it looks pretty bad hanging down plus when I go up into a drive way (uphill) its only 2-3 inches from the ground. It will probably stay like this for a bit though

lol looks like the exact same muffler I have:

What diameter is your exhaust, and what do you think about the sound? Do you have cats still? Mine is 2.5 inch diameter with 1 high flow cat, thats all thats hooked up to my down pipe. I agree I would like to figure out a good way to cut my bumper and raise the exhaust up a little bit,

its 2.25" piping w/ 2.25" inlet on the muffler and the tip is 4".. and its cat back they took out something behind the cat which was pretty big I figured taht was the resonator? I know when I rev this ***** to 6-7 rpm's it shakes (doh) and some black smokes comes out wee  would 2.5 or 3 been louder?
KeWLKaT
10-12-2005, 11:37 PM
yes it would have been louder. they say backpressure is good for n/a engines, but both me and mahonroy are talking about FI exhaust set-ups.
2.25'' piping is perfect for you. hows it sound?

sounds good @ 3-4 rpm's then at 5-6-7 I cant really hear it well inside at least I standed outside while my friend did it and **** its loud all the way from 2.. i'll have my intake on in a few days as well and my ground wire kit done so Im noticing a lot of performance diffs.. then Im going to reset the ecu (haven't so far) and get a huge boost rofl
in fact the guy who installed it was talking to me how most cars come out of there sounding like bumblebees on steroids and had never put a muffler like this on one of our cars and when he turned it on he said nope not bumblebee :D

are these magnaflow mufflers straight through?
Yes.
And to Gun5, do you have a header installed or are you running stock? What about CAI?
Yes.

i have been thinking of switching to a muffler that looks a little less fart-pipe-ish, like that, but im not gonna pay for a new cat back, and i would HATE to cut up my EF exhaust. maybe, just maybe if i find an exhaust i like, ill get a couple pipes bent and a flange welded to go from the axle back, and if i dont like it, just unbolt it and put the old one back on
as for cutting the bumper, if its a 4" tip, find something thats about 4.5", hold it right against the bumper, w/ the bottom of the bumper being 1/2 way down the disc. (should look like this ----------------( )----- ) where the ( ) is whatever you find thats round, trace it out, and cut it. a dremmel will work, but the disc gets hot and will melt the plastic youre cutting, so maybe a jigsaw (if youre careful) would work better.
whatever you do, get it tucked in

kinda confused, I get the find something 4.5 like something traced on a piece of paper maybe but after that im lost I know that the tip will be halfway in the bumper and the other will be hangin out still (how most are)

you want something thats just a tad bigget than your tip so its got some room around it. hold it up to the bumper where the bottom wuold be 1/2 way down the circle, trace around the top, along the bumper, and cut along that line

yea needs alittle room when its moving sometimes from revvin high, Im going to use a magic marker to trace.. what to cut it with now (dont have a dremel, well battery is dead) and how the heck is the muffler shop going to raise the muffler, will they have to take those rubber things off and weld it higher I imagine

Honestly, im not a big fan of those types of mufflers. I prefer the canister or something other then that. But it looks good! Glad to hear you like the sound, all the guys at the meet were amazed all I have is a CAI and magnaflow!

Hmmm, well I would believe that BUT....when you say that you're going to crazy stuff in the car, that just doesn't sound safe...especially when you're behind the wheel. I know you honey!

well, those that ride together die together i guess... and besides a persons definition of "crazy" greatly varies, he might just be doing something tame compared to what i do to my car. i swear, i dog the hell out of the engine. im the only GLS that i know off that won't hesitate to try rallying in it as is.
though i am in the market for a new exhaust, im slowly getting away from that stock look and am just looking for just straight up power, but i need more input before i buy.

When I got mine done, I first made the cut out. Then I took it to Meineke and they just heated the hangers on the muffler and bent them up. Then they put shorter, stiffer rubber hanger thingies!
