And yes, before I posted this, I did a search and found nothing of this. I know that the reason why the light comes on is a faulty sensor of somesort. Just to give you some backround on my situation:

I haven't been in a collision, and neither has the previous owner (though the scanner picks up that it has been) I tried resetting the ECU on multiple occasions to no avail

After the light had come on (2 months after) someone did a hit and run on mine in a parking lot at school and left some dents (luckily no major paint damage)

The main question is, where can I, if at all, buy new sensors and not have to pay that ridiculous amount from the dealership for having them do it? And yes, I realize that it would be safer for them to do it, but I figure, if I unplug the battery and reset the ECU and all that good stuff, I should have no problem with an exploding airbag.

You will have to goto a dealership to buy any srs related componants, and if you are not careful, airbags will deploy with a slight amount of static electricity. If you have no clue what to do,I reccomend you to get someone thats been trained to do the work to do it for you

thats just it, i know exactly what to do... just swap out the bad sensors for the good. but yeah, thats what im afraid of, getting a face full of bag while working on it. air bags are more dangerous than people think and getting hit in the face close range could really do some damage in a non-accident type setting.

Before you go out and buy a new sensor, look and feel under the driver's and passenger's seats and make sure all the harnesses are plugged in tightly. There are two harnesses under the driver's seat and three under the passenger's.

If any of them are loose or unplugged, the air bag light will be on.

It will also be on if:
1. The passenger occupancy sensor in the passenger seat is faulty
2. The seatbelt detector isn't working on either front seat
3. Any of the four airbags have a fault in the wiring.

I just copied and pasted this info to my laptop. Hopefully when I get home I can get rid of the dang airbag light staying on. It would blink on and off for a while, then it started staying on all the time. So maybe.. it's just a loose harness or something.

Just to add to the "be careful with airbags" statements... I heard a while back that car stereo installation places (Best Buy, etc) wouldn't touch some early Saturns, because the airbags could inadvertantly go off while installing stereo wiring. I also heard a tech died from that... but I don't know how much of that is true, and how much is urban legend.

Either way, if your head was right up against the airbag when it went off... you'd be in a world of hurt.

wow, my abs light came on about 3 weeks after i had my HU installed at a best buy. maybe that could be the problem. and as far as the world of hurt, id be in a world of dead. those things inflate fully faster than the brain can process it. you actually have time to blink before you realize that it had gone off (its actually starting to deflate by the time your brain processes all the information to make you flip out about it). so yeah, death wouldn't be too far fetched of a possibility.
