I convinced my parents to let me install my system myself. I got the HU, iPod conversion, and front speakers in today. I can do the front speakers, no problem. But I have NOT found a DIY for the HU.

I'm guessing remove the dash (cake). Then...?

hum, scratch that. My dad came home and flipped out. He proceded to cuss me out and yell at me, telling me that I have no electrical experience and would blow the car up, even though I've taken college level electronics courses where I excelled (I was a sophmore in hs at the time, last year so its still fresh), and set up his entire ****ing home theatre system (5.1 bose surround sound, 55" HDTV, the works).

Hes a moron. He says that they should be "professionally" installed. I've heard that best buy's install crew hella sucks and ****s **** up, so i'll take all of my stuff over to audio express or something.

Okay, tell your dad that a 17 year old kid (me) and Super (the owner of this site), with no previous experience, installed my Pioneer HU pretty easily. Get the wiring harness from Best Buy, it's like $13 or something. Go to Radioshack or something and get some Butt Connectors. A little matching up of wires, a little crimping, and you've just installed it.

make your dad read the posts on here, if he is scared about the car being f'd up, I can assure him there is a chance that best buy/ circuit city can botch the job too. when I got my stuff "installed" at circuit city i had to go back 5 times because they didn't solder anything, they lift the trim pieces up, the wires were tangled and messy behind the dash, etc. I redid everything myself and made it clean and a HU is the easiest to do.
1.Remove dash
2.Remove stock HU
3.Use wiring harness from BBuy or CCity and plug it into the stock harness
4.Attach the other end of the harness to the new HU
5.Put everything back in place.

installing a headunit in our cars is absolutely one of the easiest things you will ever do to the car as well as one of the most appreciative. the first time you do it may take an hour or two but its worth doing yourself. just buy the stuff everyone else said and sit inside and splice all the wires, they are all labeled and color coded, and then follow the diy's and take the dash apart (4 screws), unscew the stocker (4 screws), take the brackets off of it (4 screws) and slap them on the new one and reverse the instructions to put it back together. Don't let those install tech ****ers screw **** up when you can do it yourself and actually learn your car. if you absolutely must have someone install it go to someone that will let you watch everything that they are doing.

the hardest part of the deck is getting all the clips for the dash out with out breaking the damn things
