yeah i know . . .19 frickin mpg

but i figure since thats what im getting now on the xd it would be no difference lol

oh and yeah . . . AT . . . im trying to put my thoughts into words . . . so many to come back with about the insinuation that it sucks because of some "i am in the fast and the furious movie" complex . . . maybe where you live you are constantly drag racing but i live in the city right now and driving a stick sucks *** in the stop and go ****. . . besides its has the choice between the two anyway

plus, im getting too old for that racer wannabe nonsense. . . and the ultimate reason its fine to get an AT is cause its got 220 ponies under the hood. unlike the xd, it doesnt need to be stick to beat someone off the line or whatever other reason everyone wants a stick(for that extra pick up yes i know . . . i have a 5 spd accord thats stick so i know) i know, cause i drove it at the zoom zoom live event(its mazda's autocross/advertisement event(-check it out at zoomzoomlive.com) and wow! its got some . . . exhillarating(sp?) acceleration!!!!!! UGH!!!! it was heaven! oh and that new mx5(miata) . . my GOD!!!!!! and its only got 170hp . . . but its light as hell so imagine how fast that thing is!!! and dont get me started on how fast that rx8 was . . . ok ok so back on topic. . .

what was i saying . . . so yeah im getting older, i have a family . . .i mean come ON . . im getting a wagon lol

handles great and has great speed/acceleration . . . we were really happy with the feel and the looks inside and out etc and all that crap

any other questions/comments?

yeah

Wow... try not to use all that horsepower in one place with a 3461 pound wagon.... and the 2006 has 215 hp, not 220... with 199 tq @ 5000rpm. (the previous model had 220hp/192tq).

Those power to weight calculations yield a 16.113 1/4 mile time... meaning the only thing you're going to beat off the line, are the same things you beat off the line in your elantra.

im getting on 04 or 05 and like i said . . . i drove the thing yesterday . . .*sigh*/lol . . . nevermind you're right . . . its as slow as the elantra . . .lol:hammer: :headshake :hand:

hyunelan2
10-17-2005, 12:39 PM
No, it's not AS slow as the elantra, but not much faster either (about a second quicker over 1320'). But it is by no means in the same catagory as the 'quick' cars that are out there. I like the 6, not necessarily the wagon, but I do like the 6 - and most of Mazdas other cars as well. Just trying to point out some figures so you don't end up disappointed in the long-run.

Edit:

Haven't you been buying a new car like everyday for the past year now?

felixr
10-17-2005, 12:42 PM
its comparing molasses to "light" syrup lol

(elantra=molasses) lol

whats the gt weigh? about 3500 pounds too? 135 or 220 . . . . hmm lets see . . .

hyunelan2
10-17-2005, 12:44 PM
The Elantra is about 2800 pounds. I don't remember the hatch. Let me look:

Sedan -
Manual Trans = 2635 pounds
Auto Trans = 2698 pounds

Hatch - still looking, but I think it's about +200 pounds. NOWHERE NEAR the weight of the other car (which is why they give the other car more HP, to pull its heavy *** around).

I've always liked the mazda 6. Nice styling, good handling, decent acceleration, overall a good car for the price. The fact that it's a wagon is just icing on the cake. (Call me wierd, but I like wagons and hatches. They're far more useful than a sedan.) Good choice!

gt 2698 wagon 3461

you're gonna tell me that a gt with 4 fat chicks in it is just as fast as the wagon with 85 more hp and an active manifold that constantly pushes extra air towards the engine aside from what the engine is NA'ing for one . . . . come on . . . lol

in the end though . . not only is it more powerful, its more fun to drive. with the exhaust package it really opens her up. of course i would do the mods to make it perform even better and i would doctor her up under the hood for max hp to the wheels . . . dont know how the market is for them though. anyone know?

oh yeah . . . and it looks so much nicer . .. wagon wise than the "hatch/wagon" that the gt is

it looks like a saab wagon . . . moreso than the gt does. or like the audi or accord wagons of europe

I say congrats. Do what ya gotta do...BTW if you have any parts for sale let me know ;)

felixr
10-17-2005, 01:00 PM
yeah no joke kenshin, the difference in trunk/cargo space between the wagon and the sedan is incredible . . . obviously it would be but still . . . i guess the elantra sedan suffers from the same defect too though huh? gotta love that full 60/40 split!

daillest, just the strut and sway bars

oooooooooooh . .. i forgot about the wing. . . . the wing will be for sale too

hyunelan2

Why are you gonna put 4 fat chics in it? How are you going to compare an overloaded Elantra with an emtpy 6-wagon?

A single driver in the Elantra is about 1.4 second slower than a single driver in the 6-Sportwagon. Based on weight vs. horsepower.

---------------------
and in real-world observation:

According to Car and Driver:
60 mph: 7.2
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.7 sec @ 93 mph

Elantras specs are 8.5 sec 0-60 and 17.1 secs in the 1/4. So 1.4 seconds different.

Yes, the Mazda 6 sportwagon is faster, I never disputed that... but it is far from blazing speed

felixr
10-17-2005, 01:57 PM
gt 2698 wagon 3461

difference of 763lbs

divided by four bodies =190

if they all are gonna fit inside the elantra without bumping their heads . . . i will have to make them shorter than about 6 ft

factoring in an average female height of 5'7( i just made that up) they will be between 5'5'' and 5'8'' . . . you ever seen a skinny 190 pound 5'5'' tall girl?

so there is where the fat chicks came from lol

hyunelan2
10-17-2005, 02:00 PM
I know why you said 4 fat chicks, I wanted to know why you were putting them in the car? Yes, that would even the weight between the 2, but of course with even weight, the higher HP car would win. I was just trying to figure out what 4 fat chicks would prove?

P.S. I'm not knocking your decision, or even defending the Elantra... just trying to make sure statistics stay straight.

now that i re-read all this i had one of those "why DID i say that??" moments lololol

and as for buying american . . . mazda is ford, ford is american . . . or as close to it as you can come noawadays when hyundai is more american than most american manufacturers lol

haha on the "tibby" swaybar lol . . . its a 16.93.2 square micromilimeterfeets lol

I say go for it. I like the four door hatch model they have a little better. Kind of a mix between the wagon and sedan.

I like driving the Madaz 6, my dad has the sedan and it has got great handling.
Over here we only get the 4-cyl version, which really sucks, because I'm sure it'd be super-fun with a V6.
Have you considered the Mazdaspeed6?
I took the Mazda6 MPS (http://www.mazda.com.au/mazda6mps/) for a drive the other week and was pretty damn impressed, it sticks like glue.

felixr
10-18-2005, 09:39 AM
i like the hatch better too but no room man . . . its gotta be able to fit a stroller in the trunk placed in any direction . . . wow . . .i just said that . . . lol

i DID consider the mazdaspeed6 but i think i would rather upgrade the car myself than pay 5 or 6 thousand more dollars for it at the dealer when i can do it for 3k

I like the ones in Japan, the US stuff just doesn't look the same. I have heard that an intake will bump up the hp and tq quite a bit, like close to 20 a piece

i wouldnt doubt it thanks to that variable timing manfiold doo-hickey

just re read this after my 2001 gt for sale post

this never happened. i was still too upside down with the elantra to trade it in. so i just didnt do it. we found out we are having another baby recently and the whole we need a bigger vehicle conversation came up again. long story short we decided to ditch the trade in the elantra idea and got a 2005 town and country . i am trying to sell the gt or just trade it in at the end of this month or begining of next.

funny how plans that seemed so solid change over time.

I know that your plans have changed but to clarify..

the Speed6 ( which i own and LOVE ) is a hell of a lot more car than your giving it credit for. You "may" be able to get your HP comparable to that of the speed6 for 3k sure but you will NOT get the AWD you will NOT get the 6Speed Manual Tranny, you will NOT get 18inch Rims, You will not get the cutting edge Technology that has gone into the 2.3l turbocharged DISI Motor...Needless to say, sure you should be able to get the HP comparable but for the 2-3k more you would get a HELL of a lot more car by going with the Speed6.

Just my opinion as an owner/driver and ex XD Owner

I hear ya- and actually used a few of the features that the Speed6 offers as selling points to my wife when "negotiating" the purchase of my new car..

1) she already has an SUV so we were kind of set there anyway
2) i was like-- Honey- the Mazda has AWD - Safer in the Snow :)

She eventually caved.

But good luck none the less with the T&C
