So this stemmed from the "best CAI for noob" thread...
As equus from elatraclub said, for those with MAFs it's best to use an upper intake elbow with the same inner diameter as stock to avoid "confusing" the MAF sensor. A lot of people quote and/or use a 2.75" inner diameter tube, cuz that's what the openings of the stock elbows are.
Well, I actually tried measuring the ID of the stock elbow. Sure, the end openings are 2.75" ID, but the ends are thinner than the middle so that the end openings can flex and seal against the MAF and the TB. The thicker middle plastic, along with the corrugations mean that the ID of the stock elbow is less than 2.75", more around 2.5". The ID of the narrow part of the corrugation is even actually a bit less than 2.5".
