Is it a loud whiny noise when you are accelerating, or when the car is idiling? I found with mine that when I idle (esp. when the air-con is on) there is a whiny noise. I've taken it out for the winter now because I didn't have a bypass valve so I can't check to see whether it's when I accelarate as well, but I think that it was just when I idled.

if the noise you hear is at start up the throttle body will stay open because the engine is cold and needs to stay at a higher rpm for a few minutes if you don't start to drive emediatly. there is nothing you can really do about the sound (if the sound is at start up) other than making sure you pull out of the driveway before your dad hears it. lol

If I had a nickel for every time someone thought that their CAI is loud, I'd be a happy man!

My noises:
Startup: no real difference, except seems a bit louder.

Idle: Deep hum, can be heard inside house with doors/windows shut, when in garage reverberation is very loud.

WOT @ 1500-2000rpm (30-40mph): very deep growl, great for scaring pedestrians, making other cars more aware of your presence (if in blind spot, etc..).

WOT @ 3000-4000rpm (60-70mph): louder than stock, but can't hear too much due to ourdoor airflow and engine.

WOT @ 5000-6000rpm: the sound we ALL love. :D :D :D

Shutdown: If the clutch is depressed and I'm in gear, I hear like a hissing, then sort of a click. If I'm in neutral and the clutch is out, then the sound is a lot softer, and it's more just a hiss.

Overall, I love most of the noises, the shutdown one gets annoying sometimes, but no big deal!

You shouldn't ever have to get a new air filter. The one that came with your kit should be cleanable. And as for the hum, you're going to have to live with it. That's just how our cars are. There are a million posts on this, btw. :)
