After a week and a half, I just love my Red Rocket (2005 Elantra 5-door). One thing, though, is that I've never seen an Elantra with an interior like mine- either in person or on the net, even on Hyundai's website. Hyundai shows two cloth interior options:

Beige or Gray:

Larger view of gray interior:

But my gray interior looks decidedly different. First of all, it's two-tone, with dark (almost black) gray canvas-like cloth accented by a gray/blue/yellow tweed used for the seating areas and door panels. I can't find this anywhere in Hyundai literature, but I really like it. My working theory is that it's a holdover from the old practice of making all the 5-doors GTs; maybe they use a slightly darker gray for the carpet (as compared with the GLS) and decided to come up with sportier cloth seats to compliment the darker color.

Does anyone else have an interior that looks like this?

Note the tweed on the door panel:

Anyone else see an Elantra interior like this? What's the story?

Hi, that interior is exactly the same as my aussie XD2

Over here the US XD2 interior is the same as the interior
of the Kia cerato. I have dont really like the cerato/US
interior.

Our interior feels better quality and more comfortable

Ps: The dealer is swapping my center console tomorrow to one
with an arm rest/storage bin like yours under warranty because i
complained that you could not get it into reverse because the
hand break was hitting while applied.

LOL Yellow Elantra, has just shown us an example of another Elantra interior that is available in australia. This again is another different one, but it is only offered on the Sedans, the GL hatchs get the same interior as Doohickie

To be honest, I can't remember my stock interior seats, coz I put on seat covers within a week of getting the car.
However, I think they are a single tone, with the color being the same as Yellow's lighter shade of grey.
Especially the door panel centre:

You got lucky with the unique interior (at least in the states) :D
EDIT: Unless the damn Ulsan plant starts churning 'em out ALL with those specs.
  :phone:  ;)

Yeah, that's kind of crazy how you got the Aussie-esque interior.

Has anyone else checked on the GLS 5-doors, maybe a lot of them are like that?

Will covering the front seats prevent the side air bags from deploying correctly?

Yes they will; there are big warning stickers on the end of the dash (you can see them in my pics taken through the door jam.

Perhaps this has something to do with the new Limited trim available for the 2006's. Even though you have a 2005, production in Korea does have some funny side effects (various 2003 models had 2004 paint colors on them for one thing). So, maybe?

Only if you have side air bags... ;)
