I couldn't find this question already answered anywhere, sorry if I missed it.

I'm about to take my '04 Elantra in for the 30,000 mi. service and I'm trying to decide on the best place to take it. Most of the info matches up with what I've read on here. One place said they do not just a Fuel Injector check, but a whole flush. Is this necessary at this point, or should I tell them just to inspect that system?

Thanks!

I don't know if it's ever necessary... I had mine done a 15,000 - and most people said I got scammed by the dealer. The dealer didn't even offer it to me a 30,000 (unless they included it as part of the 30,000 package for $360). Dunno. If you've never had it done, it won't hurt to do it, I guess. Depends on how much they want for it.

Hyundai is recc doin this every 15k due to the returnless fuel system. They told us that when I went to new model training. It's not a ripoff.I've seen what happens to some of these vehicles when not done.Rust and sediment build-up in the fuel rail and clogs the injectors.

If it's rust and sediment inthe fuel rail, couldn't you remove the "cap" at the end of the rail, hook up a catch can and cycle the ign switch to cycle the pump?

most of the time,if you try to remove that "cap" you end up tearing something up.also that isn't goin to help get the crap out of the injectors.

There is a cheaper way to do this if you guys are the DIY kind.

as a related ? i had a 20k service visit and they recommended brake system flush, coolant system flush and clean the throttle body. i declined all 3 and ? if anyone here has done this?
i did buy a gumout spray and did the throttle body clean myself but i think the 5" "straw" got sucked off the can into the air intake. *** move on my part! i couldn't find it anywhere and car seems to run fine. is this a concern? is it possible that the straw made it past the small intakes in the body?
are the over the counter radiator flushes any good?
is a brake flush really necessary? i know service writers push useless **** so i put this out there to see what other board posters have done.

I posted about what the service logbook recommends in this thread (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showpost.php?p=121151&postcount=7), have a look. Similarly, I posted some of my own logbook entries (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10521) for comparison. And I need to update that now, as my headlight's burned out.

You can also buy a bottle of chevron with techron fuel injector cleaner. It has been tested by independent labs ( I don't have a link but i've read it in a magazine somewhere ) and it actually works.

None of the other chemicals they tried cleaned any of the injectors at all... ... so I say, spend the $ 8 and buy a bottle of the techron and run it through with a full tank and you should be good :)

I had the my fuel injector cleaning done away from the dealership where it cost me about $70 instead of $160. As far as a brake flush goes...do you know how to change your brakes? All it really entails is bleeding the current brake fluid out of the lines on all four wheels, and adding fluid back in the empty lines making sure there are no air bubbles when you're finished. Buy the brake fluid, and keep the receipt as proof. =)

I don't imagine that Hyundai is going to flush your radiator with anything you couldn't purchase at Autozone on your own anyway.

Hope that helps.
