So will 5 1/4" seperates and 1" tweets fit nicely and securely into the 6 3/4" rear locations with proper brackets without much else modifying? I have a nice set laying around that I wouldn't mind putting to use. Anyone else doing this? Any tips? Thanks.

I would think all you need to do is put in the proper spacer to fit the 5.25 into a 6.75 hole, then mount you tweeter. If you've already got the speakers, why not put them in? I know some people put 5.25s in the doors (also 6.75), so same concept here.

now to order the already made bracket from crutchfield or make my own out of 1/4 mdf? decisions, decisions...

i suck at woodworking but it took all of a half hour for me to make adaptors for my 6.5s for the front door. just trace the factory speaker, trace the cutout for the new speaker inside previous trace, 2 cuts and you're done. besides, i like the wood better than the plastic adaptors crutchfield sells and you can have them in less time and for less $.

the plastic adapters you get from crutchfield are kinda cheap and wouldn't support the speaker as nicely as MDF. on the other hand, you have to watch out for the thickness of the adapter; i don't remember how much vertical freedom you have before your speaker hits the hatch shelf. IIRC, i think 1/4" MDF would work okay...
