hi all, im just curious as to how i couuld check if i have aftermarket turbo in my '01 elantra gls, my mother said when she bought it it had turbo installed via the previous owner, but on that matter neither of us know for sure if it really does or the dealer was jus tryin ta get extra $$ out of her lol
so umm....help? haha

is there another "radiator" near the bottom in the very front of the engine bay with a pipe coming off of either side and a funky looking "mushroom" shaped filter for the air intake?

Not every turbo setup has an intercooler, or a mushroom shaped filter.

WOW.

OK. Don't listen to the posts above, except for the last one.

The only turbo realted things that are in ALL setups that would guarantee you you have one on your car are:

- a snail-shaped metal part in front of your radiator/fan, in the front of your engine
- yes, like said above, it should make a noise during acceleration
- check to see what pipe is going into your intake manifold. do you have a big black plastic box on the right side of your engine, on the top LEFT corner of the battery?
- pics would definately be awesome to visualize. give us a pic of your engine.

it is possible ( yet unlikely ) that he has one of those rear-mounted turbo kits. lol

Its odd how there would be a turbo elantra out there without us knowing... I mean wouldnt someone thats an "enthusiast" of elantras, become a part of this board? I hope its not one of those "ebay supercharger/turbo"...

nope, there is a turbo elantra owner on egt that recently told us vaguely that he has one.

lol if it has a turbonator im gonna laugh my *** off twice.. one because its a turbonator.. the other because the dealer refused free service because of it

it probably is that damn electric fan thing thats supposed to create more torq by disrupting the natural vaccum of air created by the engine. watch it has an air matress pump mounted in the intake box. if the car had a turbo you would know it every time you pressed the throttle WO!!! its not easy to mistake it for anything else!!
