I was getting a 4-ch amp to power front and rears and using my other 2-ch amp for sub. I recently was told that most people don't use the rears and when they do, they just hook them to the headunit  That would sure save some money, especially since I do have another 2-ch amp laying around. What are your thoughts on this - 1 amp for fronts, 1 amp for sub, headunit for rears? spb - any suggestions? Oh, the headunit is a Pioneer DEH-P3500. My current amps are Rockford Fosgate Punch 100 ix and Punch 200 ix. 4-ch was going to be an Alpine MRP-F240. Any expert advice much appreciated. Thanks.

I used a sony 500W 4 channel amp to power my back speakers and 1 Sony 10''sub. Sounds great even with stock front speakers/tweaters. I almost returned my alpine sps-690a because they sucked until I got them more power. really glad I kept them now. I would power the back and sub first, and later when the money is there power the front last. just my .02 (this works great for me)

A couple days ago i had my 4 channel amp (JBL 750.4) installed and I have to say... if im going to upgrade the audio of another car in the future, im always going to have every speaker/tweeter amped, because it makes a huge difference! No distortion and you get to use the full potential of your speakers. (as long as you dont overpower and destroy them....)

hrmmm, looks like im getting a 2-ch amp when i get my sub... cuz my alpines cut out in bass at about 3/4 to full capability of the HU. at first i thought it was just the wires used, and i was planning on changing those. but wiring to an amp sounds like it should work out a lot nicer for me.

most alpine speakers suck untill you have them powered correctly. Thats why you cant skimp on one area(amplification) to spend more on the other (speakers). The alpines definately need some more power than a conventional HU can provide, but it is so well worth it in the end!!!

i personally am a fan of little to no rear fill in a car stereo system. think of it this way: where are the speakers at a concert? where does the sound come when you're watching tv? where do you put your computer speakers? where do you put your home stereo speakers? the answer to all of these should be in front of you. (please note this isn't counting true surround sound where you actually have 5+ channels of sound.)
that being said, why would you want sound coming from behind you in your car. a good set of components in the front running 50+ watts should fill the car rather nicely with sound.
once again though, this is all personal preference on my part.

In a well laid out SQL system, the front speakers provide the High range of sound. While the rear speakers provide most of the midrange sound. And we all know what the subwoofers provide. In your standard HU speaker setup, you should be able to notice this setup slightly. Try fading all the way to the back, and then back to the front speakers. You should hear more trebble from the doors, and more mid-low tones from the rear.

i have heard what you are talking about too. i think the main reason for this is if you enter a car audio show you lose points if your sound is comming from the back of the car. your front speakers are suppose to be louder than your back ones. myself personally though i love the four channel. then use a mono amp for your sub.
