So today I load up MSN and what do I see:

"Size up TRUCKS - TOYOTA vs. CHEVY"

TOYOTA versus one of the All-American Truck brands.

Maybe this will make Detroit wake up. For the past years they've been struggling in the car market, but always had trucks for reliable sales. If they're dethroned from that - the end is near for them. Actually, I read a financial report (I think Kiplingers) yesterday, that mentioned future fears of GM going under if they don't do something (not like tomorrow - but maybe 10 years from now).

The problem with Toyota is that their fullsize truck only comes in a half ton variation. If they had a 3/4 and one ton theyd be more of a contender.

As far as 1/2 ton American trucks go the Dodge Ram is the best one. Ford tried to make the F150 a car and the Chevy is just weak.

yeah, i read the most stolen car list, there is nothing remotley mentioning hyundai at all, so i feel safe modding my car now! so yeah, thats why i wanted a sleeper (fear of theft) but since reading that list, i feel safe as anything modding the exterior of my car, but i still want performance then looks over anything.

:whisper: Dodge isn't an 'American' brand. It's no more American than Mercedes Benz. (Dodge => Subsidiary of Chrysler => Subsidiary of Daimler-Chrysler-AG, which is a German Company).

well... they started out with compact trucks and are slowly moving up in size... get one model right, then move up to the next one.

speaking of "import" trucks, anyone else find it ironic that Dodge sold a Mitsubitshi-built Raider in the 80's, and now Mitsu is selling the Dodge-built Raider (Dakota)?

Actually it is an American brand, brand and company are two different things. The company is no longer American but the "brand" deffinatly still is. Marketing 101.

Sorry for the misuse of terminology. I suppose this is under the same premise as Acura and Lexus being American Brands by a Foreign Company.

Whatever you want to call it, the truck's still foreign.

lets not forget that not only are they not 100% american, neither are harley davidson's. they all have the alternator, or some internal electrical device crucial to the engine in them from japan. so before you start praising american muscle and american pride in "american" vehicles. remember, there hasn't been an "american" vehicle since the early 90s, and even that is debatable.

But the options are limited. Theres no 5 speed (Ford no longer has one either though), no regular cab and no long bed. Its either extended or crew cab. Most fleet trucks are regular cab long beds so that leaves the Nissan out of that market.

And Isuzu made the Chevy Luv and now Chevy makes the Isuzu I3500 or whatever it is.

nissan titan-
60% comes from us/canada
20% cames from japan
20% i dont know where
assembled in canton mississippi
engine- usa
trans- japan

anybody able to find this on any "american" trucks? the toyota either?

but im sure if you could find the statistics, not many manual trans trucks are sold, i worked with chevys for a while and never sold one. as far as the cab and beg arguement, this is tru, but the truck is fairly new, and they went with the basic models they offer as a feeler to see what kind of interest there is before opening up to all models, they are looking into diesel (i believe a cummins if i recall, just loke dodge) and also a more powerful gasoline engine, but you have to see what kind of a response you get in the truck market before you dump tens of billions into all the different, cab/bed/engine options. besides, what other pickup offers a dvd player from the factory in a pick-up, lol

This one is weirder -

Isuzu designed the D-max (sold all over the world but not here cause it is only deisel) and it is now the basis for the Chevy Colorado, the Chevy colorado is now the rebadged as the new Isuzu i280 and i350, So you are now buying an Isuzu designed Chevy built truck that is rebadged as an Isuzu.

The plus side is, you will save almost 2k and get a better warrenty if you buy the Isuzu one.

I have a friend with GM stock, and he was telling me the other day that GM isn't doing too well, apparently, like mentioned, they could be gone fairly quick if things go bad.

Honestly, it kind of makes sense, little by little the US is getting out of industry and into information technology (whatever the hell that is). So, hmm.

I know if I had to buy a truck it would probably be a Tacoma. Although, I'm not nearly as educated about them as some of you here, so I don't have a "case" as to which is better or worse.
