I have an automatic 2001 GLS with 48K miles. The only performance mod I have is a CAI. (and a painted engine cover for 20+ hp ;) ) But anyways, lately Ive noticed that my car is having trouble shifting from 1-2 gear (is that the shift normally at 30mph?) .
Well, currently its not that bad. And it doesnt do it all the time. It used to only do it when I needed to accerlerate quickly, but now Ive noticed it doing it on regular city driving.
I was debating about whether or not to take my car to the dealership (Laurel Hyundai - excelent service) and have them replace the transmission. Should I take it in now, or wait til about 55-58K miles to take in? The reason I ask is because since I got my car used, my warranty expires at 60K miles, or in Aug 06 (Ill reach 60K before Aug im sure of it). i think it would prolly be good to have a fresh trans before my warranty expires, hence why I am thinking about waiting.
Have you done a trans flush?Thats the first thing they are goin to try to blast you on if you havent. Also there might just be a reflash for it,there must be like a million flashes for the auto trans. If it's not either of them, pray that they will replace it for you. Also, don't wait to do it,they will just think what you are thinking(new trans before warr expires).I'd say do it soon

Well i got my car at 38K miles in June 05, so it should have been done already.Im not due for any service til the 60K service.
Does it do it all the time? Cause mine kinda rolls into the next gear, lets it go, and then grabs it like hell, but only when its warming up, or if im flooring it, and then suddenly drive sane.

Thats exactly like how mine acts OPZ, but now it seems like all the time. the other gears shift nice.
It doesnt slip hard. Its just maybe a second of pause before it catches the next gear.
Yea, mine goes all fine, and then all of a sudden I hear a THUD, and the car jolts and I can feel it grab the gear. Usually its in the lower gears and when it first warms up. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't reproduce the problem. You could try though, who knows, maybe they will find it on yours...

LOL mine doesnt thud. With mine, it occasionally slips as it attempts to catch gear.

My does that as well, but it does it @ like 80mph as it drops a gear w/ the pedal on the floor.
Scares me.

I'd bring it in now .. that way if they replace it you have some time to let your car adjust to the new trans. Then if something goes wrong because of having the new trans that'll be covered too.
Once they start touching things they're bound to cause some other seemingly unrelated problem
