I've killed at least 15 of these suckers in the past 24 hours.

I talked to my neighbor in the next building over, and she said she's killed quite a few too. I'm not 'afraid' of spiders, but I hate them passionately. It also makes me nervous, because they are small and brown. We have the brown recluse spider around here (small, brown, highly poisonous spider) and I don't want to have to have any part of my body amputated.
I know it's halloween and all, but I'd just prefer if they didn't come in my house. They've been everywhere from the garage, to the livingroom, to the kitchen, to the bedroom. WTF?

I killed 5 and called Orkin back out. Just hosed another 5 or 6 dead ones off the patio (along with about 50 damn crickets-dead too). 'Tis the season...

Eww. I hate spiders too.
Good luck with that, all we have is some ants ever now and then. Nothing Raid can't handle.

I don't really mind spiders much, although like you said if I am not sure of what they are ie. being a brown recluse or not (we have them here as well) then I will kill them. Black widows are easy to identify, we even have brown black widows - they have the hour glass, they are brown with stripped legs - and they usually don't make it past my 9 1/2 shoe. Other spiders, especially the jumpers, I will let pass as they get rid of the other pest around. Now, wasps, bees, and hornets I have no use for.

There is no hope for them when my size 13 comes stomping down on them :D

I recommend Diatomaceous Earth. It's not a chemical and will NOT harm pets or people. It's a very fine powder, but to bugs(any kind of bug), it's like walking on razorblades. It's a mechanical kill, since it cuts their exoskeleton and they dehydrate very quickly. They cannot build up an immunity to it like some bugs will with chemical sprays. I use that for all of my pest problems and have had no problem. I have several pets and two kids and use it without worry.
Be advised that there are two kinds of diatomaceous earth. One is "Pool-Grade", which is used in Swimming Pool Filters. The other is "Food Grade", which is used as a pesticide. I also use this to add my to hog feed(yes I raise pigs). It keeps bugs out of the feed containers and helps deworm the pigs as well.
This stuff will work great for spiders.

Living in an 80+ year old house I've seen the wierdest animals come crawling around.....I usually scream and run and get Paul to take care of them! LOL I've killed a few big ugly spiders here and it's really gross - especially the ones that go squish and leave a big mark behind. We recently permanently installed a dehumidifier in the basement and that really seems to be doing wonders this year with controlling the creepy crawlies. That and when we did renovations I sealed up every crack I could with expandable foam or caulking :) Found out the dog enjoys crickets too.....the joy :)
I had a BIG wolf spider living on my front porch for most of the summer. I leave my outside lights on all the time, and he had plenty of snacks all the time. I just noticed that after the latest cold snap, he is gone, I was kind of sad.
Now if I find his creepy *** in the house, he's history.
