so about 2 weeks ago @ work, guy next to me listening to my mp3 player, rolled away from the desk, drops it, busts the earphone jack...it wiggles and earphones dont work. i finally crack it open, and like i thought, its busted off all the electrical connections. i need to find someone to solder it and may have someone....he said hed pay to fix it, but im still pissed....i can hold the jack down and hear my music, but its in like 4 pieces and im sittin here typin w. 1 hand so i can listen to something. if i cant get it fixed, he said hed pay for it, which isnt the problem is that since my cds were stolen, this is ALL the music i have...car rides are startin to suck w/o my mp3 player

since it's an mp3 player, do you have a backup of the music on your computer?
make him buy you a new player, then fix the one you have, and sell it on Ebay. make a little money on the ahole

AS a temp-fix, can you put a rubber-band around it to hold the jack in place?

It's an MP3 player, he can copy the songs he has on the player over to the computer at anytime. That has nothing to do with the headphone jack.

yeah. i can put the music onto my computer, im sure. i bought it w/ 5k songs on it. rubberband wont work. its actually inside the mp3 player that the electrical connections are snapped off, and i have to take the back cover off to even get to it. oh well...taking it to someone here in a few minutes to see if he can do anything about it. ill let you know how it goes

ok. now im pissed. i gave the guy a few weeks before i went looking for a replacement. I find one for 95$. cheap as hell. ask him today..."hey, so if i go ahead and order this, can you get me back next friday on payday?" him : "hell no...i aint paying for that"...WTF? "yes you are, you said you would pay me back for it. you broke it, this isnt coming out of my pocket" him : "i never said i would pay for that"...so i call someone in the office..."hey kathy, you remember that convo where brian said he'd replace my mp3 player right?" "yes" "ok thanks". guy : "man, i just totaled my car...i dont have 300$ to replace that"..."well...this is from a month ago. youve known about this. plus, this is only 95$. im tryin to save you some money"..him : "well then take me to court"....
now why does this ****er think i wont do it? ive got witnesses, everyone knows the thing worked before he touched it, he dropped it, and then the jack is busted, as soon as he picked it up, AND he agreed to pay me back for it. you know what. **** this guy. when i take him to court (when, not if), i am not going to be going after 100$ for a replacement. its going to be a brand new one for however much the new ones are. this pisses me off to no end. god i hate assholes like this. i wish i could just walk up and punch him right in the side of his head, and still be able to keep my job.
I know how you feel, just when you take him to court, dont forget to add in court cost and all of that.

you know, i could probably go on one of those shows if i wanted to wait for a year and not have this guy pay my $. my neighbor was on there, and if someone is ordered to pay, the show pays the judgement, as well as all the trip expenses to get there. i dont want someone else to pay. the guy just said "ill give you 'something' for it, but not replacing it"...im like, nope. we'll let someone else decide that. i am going to be going down and spending 40-50$ to file small claims. ive got witnesses here that saw what happened and what he said

you have already done the hard part by locating the problem. now just go out and buy a soddering iron, sodder, and some flux. find a clear space to work and go at it. practice on some messed up speaker wire or something............
"you can do it"

already took it to a pro to try to get it soldered. its not able to be fixed. the "pad" that the connections get soldered to on the circuit board have been ripped off, which makes no where to solder to now. also, something about a "path" got ripped. i think he was trying to put it into words i could understand. basically its f'ed. i got another one on the way

I have to hand it to you man; this is quite possibly the most elaborate story I've ever read by someone who's trying to cover the fact that he's typing with one hand.
