Ok,
I rebuilt an old pc...
Just formatted/installed windows on it.
it restarts, but stays stuck on the "black" screen right before the wdinows screen shows up.
Last line it shows is: Verifying DMI Pool Data.....
And it freezes there.
Any thoughts?
Hyunelan2???? :)

I agree... it could be too many things. If it does the same thing upon reformat and install, then you've got a hardware issue.

may I ask what operating system you are using, and if you are using a windows bootable cd or a windows copy?

ok. If you are using a copy of windows. You will have to fdisk and format the hard drive. If you have a workable pc, you can easily create a bootable windows as long as you have access to a windows copy, and a cd burner.
With a bootable windows cd, all you will have to is set the pc to boot from the cd rom. Than all you do is insert the windows cd, and it should run, allowing you to set up windows.
If you have a copy of windows (non bootable like above), you have to use a windows boot disk to boot ur machine, by setting it to boot from floppy. Then in DOS you have to fdisk ur machine, fomat it, and then run windows setup.
If you have access to a cd burner, I highly recommend that you create a windows boot cd as it makes installing windows much easier than the second option.
What windows are you trying to install? 98? Its prolly much better for you to install 2000 for the plug ad play capability.

Oh, if you need help on creating that boot cd. Let me kno. Its very easy to make as long as you have a copy of windows, or access to the I386 files for whatever windows you want to make.
Link to how to make one:

A quick google of "stuck at verifying dmi pool data" found this page:
http://www.duxcw.com/faq/computer/dmi.html
That should give you some help...
Also, found this:
Try taking the floppy out of the disk drive. these days, not all disks will give you the "insert boot disk" if it is a non bootable disk.
And this:
These days everyone seems to be upgrading thier PC's with larger harddrives. Unfortunatly some PC's do not support these large harddrives directly (via BIOS). So before you can use the drive you must first load a BIOS extention program that normally loads into memory BEFORE you restore, and AFTER the drive is restored. Failure to do this will result in your machine HANGING at the DMI POOLING message. Your large harddrive should have come with a program (EZ-BIOS, etc) to help you with this.
This guy had the same error and got it fixed by the help of these people: http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115159

I read that first site, problem was that I haden't cleared the CMOS...
and also I noticed that in auto detection of the HDD, the pc was detecting the wrong ones, I had to select the right one in the list LOL
