just for clarification, its no one on this board

now, im not *****ing about someone who wants to offer 80-90% of the asking price, but WAY lower. i have a hot tub i got from my buddy's mom. it was broken, needed some work put into it, i got it running, works fine. it needs to go now. my parents getting divorced and this isnt staying w/ the house. so i list it on a local racing board for 500$. i figure, thats fair, its working, comes w/ a cover, a few chemicals. well, this guy PMs me, says he'll give me 200 for it.. WTF?!?!? so of course, i tell him no. it sits for a month, i lower it to 400$. another guy says he'll give me 350 for it. i said ok, took a 100$ deposit, held onto it. well, he just finds out that due to his homeowners association, he cant put it on his lawn. has to be in an enclosed room or on his deck (which is about 3x3...tiny) so he says he wont be able to get it. when he told me he would take it, guy #1, pms me, says "im really dying to get back into a hot tub, bottom line me"...i tell him its sold and i took a deposit. so today, i pm'ed him, and let him know if he's still looking, bottom line price is 350, and its ready to go. he comes back and says hell give me 250...WTF is that? its like "you said 'bottom line me' and i did, and you still wanna low ball me?"

i hate stupid people

heres the PM i just got from him

I'm not low balling you. I made a serious offer. You didnt want it. Paulc [guy 1] (even though I dont know him) was making offers to buy a ton of stuff on here, and it is no surprise to me that the deal fell through. I'm not trying to rip you off. I pay cash and pick up immediatly. I can give you the names of several people on here that I have purchased items from and all will agree that my cash speaks. Your right I dont necessarily pay top dollar however if somebody is in a jam and needs to get rid of something they know they can contact me. I dont know your situation or how bad you want to get rid of it. Most of my buys are things I dont need. Hell I just bought a compressor from a guy on here last night that I already have 2 of.
If you want to sell it let me know I'm not trying to offend you. I just stated what I have, to spend right now. Its cool the harsh words arent necessary.

Now unless you live in the middle of no where and theres only 2 other guys within a 100 mile radius your town... i guess this is the best deal you can get... but I wouldn't give it up... its funny how at a tag sale i had some random **** for 50cents... and the little old grand ma still wanted to bring me down to 25 cents... I said to myself "how cheap can you get B*tch" but i think we sold it anyway since it was only worth 50cents to me... so ya alot of people just want 50% of what you say so next time just mark up the price to 800 and when they offer like 350... youll say SOLD! (making them believe they got it for 550 less instead of 50...

I'm glad that you said it was nobody on this board. When I first read it I was thinking to myself "man, I don't think that I gave him a different offer, I hope I didn't"...

Just because that's not really my style. Still worried for a second though, pointlessly.

Sorry to hear about the hottub though, that's retarted.

That was great...hahaha!

My wife and I recently had a garage sale and like someone said earlier, people will always try to lowball you even if you priced it fairly and it's already cheap. Don't think of it as someone lowballing you. He's trying to bargain with you. No need to get pissed off about it. Remember, you're the one in control. You don't have to sell it to him if you thought it was too low.

Like the guy said in his reply, he's not trying to offend you. You probably took it too far if he mentioned something about harsh words. It never hurts to ask. In the worst case, you'll say no. He just wants to hear a yes or no answer.

Imagine if you walk up to a girl to ask her politely to dance with you, she turned around and said, "Ewww, get away! You're not my type! You're ugly! Shoo!!!"... wouldn't you take that as being offensive? I would be like.."damn, all she had to say was no. She didn't have to hurt my feelings like that."

I'm gonna have to side with the lowballer on this one.

As far as selling your hot tub goes, have you tried listing your hot tub in your local paper? Sometimes a small community paper will let you list for free. Or you can pay a small fee and put it in the pennysavers or newspaper. You'd be surprised how many people will respond. Or, you could always Ebay it and ask for local pick up.

I think you haven't exhausted your options yet if a local car forum is the only place you've advertised. For the same reason you wouldn't go house shopping by surfing EXD.com, hot tub buyers wouldn't go browsing the local online car forums.

"$1 Bob!"

Honestly I dont think you can really blame the lowballer. Everyone is out to save money, and it couldnt hurt to ask.

actually that has happened to me. there was this one girl that i had a huge crush on from NJ when i was a junior (her family had just moved to VA) and we were pretty good friends. Well, at homecoming, I asked her out and she just said no, and took her cousin instead. it wasnt until after i met the love of my life (my second choice for the dance... a sophomore at the time) and graduated with girl no.1 did i find out that she in turn had a huge crush on me.

but now we are still really good friends, she is getting married in about a year or two, and her younger sister (equally hot and best friends with my g/f) is also a really good friend of mine. So yeah, rejection isn't all that bad, besides, they may have a really hot sister!

BOT: I wish i had somewhere to put a hottub... then i'd drive up there with my mom's rodeo and pic it up in person.

I think it qualifies for lowballing when im asking 500 and someone offers 40-50% of the price, which was the offer at first. at that time, i did tell him "no, i cant go that low, sorry" and then a month later he said "bottom line me, im really itching to get another hot tub". even when i did bottom line him, he still came back w/ an offer of 100$ less than my already reduced price. thats what pissed me off.

i put it up on the local car club because a) its local b)there are quite a few people who buy oddball things and c) its free. newpaper ads are 30$ for small spots, and when selling something for 3-500$, it almost doesnt turn much of a profit to take the time/money to take out an ad. this was just somewhere to try to sell it before paying to list it somewhere like a paper or ebay is the last option
