View Full Version : Replacing the rear seat?

I was just wondering if it was possible to get just the top section of the back seat for an 04 US GT. I want one with the armrest. I have never even seen what they look like but just the idea of a rear center armrest excites me almost as much as having those secret little pop-out cup holders in the back. I want to do an entertainment system in my backseat and having a place for headphone storage and comfortable arms makes for a great mod. Thanks for any advice on this one - Subvibe

I've never seen the armrest one in the US. Perhaps you could PM someone in Korea (Mr Dan) or Australia (j0hn) and ask them if they've seen them there. Or contact www.dreamka4u.com and see if they have them.
I like the pop out cupholders, too, but they'd only work in the sedan. The seat bottom tipping forward on the GT doesn't work with them. :(

Right, you'd have to get the Korean backseat. The problem with that though is that I think you lose the 60/40 split, I think, not totally sure though.
Shipping might be a bit much though, although the seat back isn't too heavy, it is big.

for future reference:
60/40 split stays with the rear armrest.
However, I'm 87% sure that only the Elite model comes with the rear armrest, which is only available in the gray leather upholstery. So if that's a problem, then S.Korea is your only chance mate.
Good luck though!

why not jack one out of another car like a mitsu galant or something like that, then take it to a custom upolstry shop. then they could remove the cover for the seat. cut the padding and then figure a way to bolt that in. or if you keep the 60/40 split them you only have to order half of the seat. by half i mean the 60 split. thats prolly the way to go. good luck

If it's the same color leather, a 60/40 split, and if the split is off-center to the same side, you'd only need the 60% side with the built-in armrest... that would save some $ in shipping.

I do indeed have the dark grey leather interior so I may have to look further into this. Then again, the idea of adding one to the current seat is great as well. Thanks again for your insight on this - Tom

What are these pop out cupholders everyone is talking about. I have the fold down armrest in the back and it has pop out cupholders on it. It's so cool I wish I could sit back there and enjoy them. Are there some other pop out cup holders i got stiffed on?

4-door models have a pop-out cupholder in the bottom seat cushion... it's pretty slick...

Mr. Dan, do you know if the sedans have the 40/60 split with your style center armrest/cupholders?
I had a pic up of the sedan cupholders once, I don't know where it is, I'll reupload shortly.

I didn't really want to get a hyundai, but there were so few kms on this one that I had to take it out for a testdrive. I loved the drive, better than anything else in it's pricerange, and then I found it...the cupholder in the back seat and I realized at that moment that I needed to get this car.

i love my cupholders in the back seat. so far i have 5 cupholders, both front doors(which i only put 20oz bottles in) the 2 back ones and of course the front one. one of the elantras here at the dealership has has the rear armreast and its a sedan. its a used 04. iv seen 2 with the armrestz in the back besides the one at the dealership. and im in cheyenne WY.

it was over a year of owning the car before I discovered the back-seat cupholders. I think I was cleaning my car and I saw the thing that is the cupholder pushed in. I pushed it in and the cupholders popped out. I was like "OH MY GOD, I HAVE CUPHOLDERS IN THE BACK SEAT." they've only been used once, recently in fact, and the person who used them enjoyed my story of the cupholder discovery. ah, drunk posts are so stupid.

I go on lunch runs every day and use both the front and rear cup holders regularly. I just introduced the rear cup holders to a friend who bought his gt a few months before mine. He had a brief case of shock and awe and I once again had to stress the importance of owning the elantra gt.
