I would like to know what people's opinions are on doing an EXD calendar? I do not know for sure how it would work, but I thought we could discuss it. This would be an actual paper calendar, not something you view online. According to some very slight research (10 mins on google lol), something like this would cost anywhere from $15 to $20.

Here are my thoughts:

-Anybody can submit photos (of their cars, not themselves obviously)
-Photo submissions are limited to 3 photos, of high quality, upon which the administrators choose the best 1 of the 3 to be voted on
-After all the submissions are in by a deadline date, then the voting takes place, in which ONLY the EXD members WHO HAVE AGREED TO BUY A CALENDAR get to vote on the top 12 cars (one for each month)
-Votes are collected, analyzed, and calendar is made and ready to be shipped out

Now I realize that this is not perfect, but hey I just want to stir up some opinions. First of all, with my description, you might automatically see that it becomes unfair for someone to submit a photo(s) of their car, NOT agree to buy a calendar (thus not being able to vote), yet still be able to be VOTED ON. I guess I think there will be more submissions in general if people don't have to buy. BUT, if 12 or more cars are entered that have agreed to buy, then those submissions automatically are given the rights.

i say first we find out if we have the ability to sell more than a few of these. then, anyone can submit pictures, then, everyone can vote. top 12 pictures get in, then let the mods, or some other select group of people decide which car should go on which month.

i dont know if this is something youre willing to do...if not, id be willing to work on this. i would think we would need to have everything ordered by end of the month in order to have them here by holiday/new year.

you know what...i think we should use the COTM from every month. that would be fair. put the shot of the full car mainly, then pics of like interior, engine, front/rear shots all down the side. im gonna see what i can throw together then check on pricing...hmm

I think this is a cool idea. It would be neat for all the COTM winners. I was actually thinkin about a calender for exd but it wasn't the paper kind. It was one that was on the site to give you heads up on b-days, events, and other stuff rather than it being posted on the day it happens. Elantraclub has a calender on the site that posts those kinds of things. I think it'd be cool to have one of those kind here. Just a suggestion but yeah, i think the paper calender would be awesome. Again, great idea! :thumbsup:

Ok that sounds cool. At least you seem to have an interest in the idea evan, that's good. And yes, the "which car on which month" was the other tough spot to figure out. Usually, in a car calendar, the shot will be taken according to the season. BUT, how many of us with bodykits/nice rims/good paint are going to want to get good shots in the snow ya know?

And also, while I agree that the COTM cars would make great additions, that virtually eliminates the need to submit other photos and vote. The whole purpose is to allow the entire EXD community to particiapte, at least I think.

Maybe we should just do the 12 COTM winners from 2005 to make the 2006 calendar. Throughout the 2006 year we can make adjustments and incorporate submissions/voting. You are probably right evan, it might be to late to do anything more than that.

EDIT: Elantra_GT_Chic we must have posted at exactly the same time lol. And yes, I like the on-site calendar as well. Ever since I signed up here I've wanted to bring a calendar to work with me, and have one at home, with the possibility of seeing my car on there!

LOL ArunSenior. Nothing against you Super, just thought that was funny. And on a 3rd thought, evan is right, we can just use COTM. Basically, COTM in itself involves submitting and voting. If anything, let's say for a 2007 calendar, I bet this gets more people to enter COTM in 2006...

how about we do dec-nov COTMs (ilan dec 04 to elpi nov 05) to print out for the 06, and for 07, we do dec 05 to nov 06. that way we can have one for this coming year, unless you want to wait till dec to do them. id like a paper calender for my cubicle

No I'd much rather have one for 2006, so the Dec-Nov idea will def work. I have never made a calendar before. I am not even sure of the process. I suppose it could be done either independently or commercially. However the current EXD merchandise was made in the "EXD Shop" I figured we could just add a calendar. Anybody have any idea on what type of timeframe we are looking at?

fast. i say we should make sure its ok to use everyone COTM pics (which i doubt anyone will say no) and get jan-nov ready, and since the dec COTM will be picked late nov, put one together for each nominee, and as soon as the winner is chosen, send everything into calender co or whoever youre using to start getting em printed

I think this is a great idea too.... In fact I wouldnt mind making the photoshoped pictures..... The big pic of the car w/ the little ones down the sides like evan said plus have their name in a nice font with a list of mods going down the side....??? I wouldn't mind doin this at all this month. If you guys give me the dimensions the pictures need to be... I'll get started on them tonight lol.... Get ahold of me.... send me a PM or gimme a IM on Yahoo... knottravesty over there too...

EDIT: One thing though.... Super can actually make a calendar on CafePress.... Its really not that hard... I can talk to him and see how he wants to do it... So technically we wont have to deal with a "Calendar Co." or anything like that... plus we'll actually be able to have it in the "EXD Shop" and its not costing anyone any money out of their own pocket...Because as far as my experience is .... You can't sell anything in the EXD Shop unless it was made in Cafe Press lol....Good Idea though guys... ill get started on it tonight cause I already have the dimensions

EDIT AGAIN: Ok I just did my research... They'll be 14.99 + Shipping... shouldnt be too much at all... it has a cover and 12 months... of course lol... I'll get ahold of all the COTM owners and get this started.. Don't worry I'll give you guys credit in the calendar... great Idea....

id like to try to work on this...i got a copy of some photo editor last night and started toying with it....maybe its the fact that ive never used one or that i just flat out suck at it, but that thing takes some time to learn how to do...im gonna work on some other stuff today and see what i can learn to do w/ it

You work on that evan lol... I have Photoshop CS2... and i've took classes on it... I was surprised when in my senior year at high school we actually got a class to take on just Photoshop... Greatest thing that ever happened to me lol.... One bad thing about the CafePress Calendar that I don't know if we were able to do with another one.... I'm almost positive theres no way to put your own "Dates" in there... as in BDAYS and stuff like that.... hope it didnt mean THAT much lol...Thats alot of people to do anyways.... I think we should just stick that to the online one anyways...

Together I'll work with Shaun to get this altogether with COTM winners.

It wouldn't be $14.99 shipped, it would be $15.99 shipped. That way I could at least make a $1 off each one, that's not too much to ask, is it?

Umm Sorry but I think im just gonna stick to the 05' Winners... sorry... lol... it makes me sad. Ohh and the whole switchin out thing is a no too... basically we take the pictures and make the calendar... then its on the shop... no real easy way to do a switchout... not with cafepress anyways... JUST try for an 06' Win lol....Thats what im gonna do.... I have an Idea... On the Cover I was just gonna do a plain ElantraXD logo.... but since everyone wants to be on a calendar... I Can make the Cover a collage.... Send your favorite picture to knottravesty@yahoo.com....I'll try and get a way to get everyone on there... lol.... But the months are dedicated to the winners...

Well I'm glad to see so much feedback on this topic! And I apologize to VTElantra for the re-post. I must admidt that I did not do a search on this topic, as I just assumed it had never been addressed.

I have Photoshop CS2... and i've took classes on it...I also have Photoshop CS2, along with Illustrator CS and InDesign CS. I'm attending Westwood College, majoring in animation with a minor in graphic design. Knottravesty I tried to add you to my AIM list, but apparantly AIM and yahoo messenger are not compatible. I've only been goin to Westwood for 5 months and have only done some beginner work in those programs, but I'd like to keep contact with you thru PM about ideas, let me know.

On the Cover I was just gonna do a plain ElantraXD logoWell along with a collage of the past COTM winners, there may be a solution to the "plain" EXD logo. Super had posted about designing a new logo for the site anyway, so maybe this calendar could be the unveiling of that logo...

And one more thing for everybody to consider. When submitting photos for COTM, really try to take some unique pictures. Personally, the main picture for each month should be not only the best picture, but also the most unique. What makes a picture unique can be anything from the obvious car mods to the less obvious background/picture angle/lighting conditions etc...

WHATS THE COVER!!!!I think we should just make the collage cover out of past COTM winners, basically everyone up until Nov. '04. Otherwise you're going to get 349 submissions. There are plenty of past COTM winners (think about the archives lol). And I also think that the logo needs to be on the cover somewhere, be it in the center, lower right, whatever, just somewhere.

EDIT: Speaking of the Archive, there is a calendar feature there that seems to perfectly represent what Elantra_GT_Chic described as wanting on-site. Maybe there is a way to bring that feature over here to vBulletin.

I agree there would be alot of submissions... So the vote is done lol... Just previous COTM will appear on the cover due to the fact they didnt get to be in a calendar. I'll figure up something for next year lol..I've already got about a third of it done... But I have to wait for dec's COTM so... itll be till the end of Nov. When I get it finished... but as soon as I get the stuff to super, he puts it on that day... and BOOM ready to buy that minute!!! I hope you guys like the months... I want it clean looking but nice.

Like I said I have 4 of them done... Here is what I came up with for June. I think its nice and clean... it has a few pictures, name, and modifications. Before its my "final" copy I'm gonna make sure the owner of the car likes it. If someone was putting my car up on someones wall, I would want it to look the best lol.... Scott's was the first one I did and from what he said he liked at it as well as I...

Did you download the template from CafePress that shows what size to make them in? That way when I add them to the calendar there won't be any stretching or stuff to get up off the edges?

As for the on site calendar, we had that before on this site and nobody used it so I got rid of it.

Well, I just thought it would be cool to know when some events happened or know when someone's b-day is AHEAD of time vs. on the day it happens. I know I'd use. Don't know if anyone else would or not. But it was just a suggestion. I still think it'd work though.

Looks good so far! Obviously every car is going to have a different list of mods, some shorter while others longer. I like how your layout for the 2 months are not similiar, with the images being placed in different spots. And knottravesty if you could PM me I would appreciate it, I'd like to know how you're doing this. Being in the learning phase of graphic design, it's very interesting to me, thanks!

Evan they are on photobucket... if the photo is a certain size it resizes it untill its small enough to hold on photobucket... these pictures are pretty big file size wise.. I have them saved as PNG's for better resolution. Photobucket automatically resized them to that lol....

I still think it'd be cool somehow to make maybe a 13th page.. for your own car so you can use it if you wanted to? I know some ppl who pick one calendar picture and use it the whole year. Or if you wanted to knott, have people email you pictures and you could do up a page for them.. then email it back. They could print it out on photo paper or something. I still want to order one with the COTM for each month.

Well the idea of having a 13th page is impossible coming from cafepress... It is a great idea and all but it just wont happen lol... I think i mentioned this somewhere else. Now the whole thing where I do up someones page send it to them and they print it out themselves... that can be a different story lol.... Lotta time put in from me but I would do it... There's just no possible way to have a 13th page thats interchangable.

Knott is right. Not only is a 13th page impossible, but it is also impractical. Everyone please remember, the whole idea behind this calendar is to showcase some of the hardwork that members here have put into their cars. Te be put into the calendar you must win COTM, and that should be the only way in my opinion. Making your own page and simply replacing someone elses is dumb, if you're going to do that, just print out some pics of your car and glue them onto a calendar that you already have, no sense in buying the EXD one.

Like I anticipated, and from several reactions here in this thread, there will be more people running for COTM each month, and I think that's great! You don't always have to have the most mods or the coolest body kit to win. Take Gun5 (Ryan I think is his name) for example, if I remember correctly, he had the least amount of mods out of any COTM winner, but he won anyway because people liked his clean look.

Heres a rundown on cafepress.com... A very handy online site for any small buisness or great artist.

You make any logo (and or picture,saying, something to those lines) and you upload it to cafepress.

Then with the logo's you loaded up... you can load as many as you want!!!
You slap your logo on their products (ie: white shirt, cups, clocks, CALENDAR)

after your done chosing what logo goes where on what.

It pops up in your store.

Then anyone that goes to the store, clicks on the item and buys it from cafepress by themselves. They ship it and Voala (sp) lol...

Now technically Super could purchase 20 of them... and then sell them out byhimself... but thats pointless.. thats double shipping (if any) and alot of time lol....Now you might wonder (He might want to charge that extra dollar he wants out of them to help EXD)

Well then... on Cafepress the manager of the store can raise the price up as much as he/she wants... and get whats left over from the base price. Its a very nice program....

NOTE: You can only use the items they HAVE... lol... alot of people think he can just sell turbos and other aftermarket parts in there... UHHH NO lol (quote from "My Wife and Kids")

On the other thread, it was mentioned that the alero site lets you switch your picture in for one of the others if you decide to. What would be the possability of doing that on here?

I don't have anyone's car in mind to take out...it would just be nice to have my car on my calendar.

Either way, I'm buying whether I can do this or not, it's a great idea. I'll just be more motivated to go for COTM later on for the next calendar.

maybe, if we work it out with cafepress, we could set it up to where the cover of the calendar could be personalized (for a fee of course) to have your own pics of your car or whatever on the cover... but thats just an idea.
