I was wondering has anyone tried to do a saab ignition(center console), it looks really hot.

I don't think anyone on here has tried that. I personally hate Saab's center console, but my family and friends (they sell Saabs for a living), always say it's more ergonomic.
I think it's harder with everything in the center. It's hard figuring out which buttons are for the windows, without accidentally pushing the button for the convertible top, which is located close to the window switches.
Personally, I think the Elantra is one of the most ergonomic car's I've been in. If you put your arm on the arm rest, the window buttons are at your fingertips. Little things like that make you appreciate the Elantra even more when you drive other people's cars.

Some of that is ergonomics and some of that is training. I've been going through a lot of adjustment trying to get used to the power windows, cruise, etc., on my new Elantra, which has things in similar positions as on my Fords, but with different functionality (i.e., window up and down are opposite, cruise functions different). Not saying one way is better or worse than the other, but they're different and if you're not used it, it feels awkward.
As to the subject at hand, I don't particularly like the position of the Elantra ingnition switch. With the keyless entry fob attached the way it is, it always dangles there, making noise when hitting bumps and scratching up the steering column trim. I recently rented a Mazda6 and the keyless fob and ingnition key were integrated into one piece where the key folded into it to fit nicely in your pocket and when you pushed a button it swung out, switchblade style.
If someone did a SAAB style ignition, what would you put in the spot where the current ignition is? (a VW Bug style bud vase?)

i'd do push button ignition before doing the relocaiton. but i'm fine with the ignition being where it is and don't see much of the point of messin' with it.

why would you want to limit the already small amount of space you have between the seats by putting your whole friggen biggass set of keys. plus once you do this mod a 7 yr old will be able to hotwire your car.

i agree with you 100%. i have been in a lot of new cars, and the ergonomics of the elantra just make "sense". from the moment i sat in it for the first time, everything felt "right" (well, except for maybe the rear wiper switch, which is awkward... but that was fixed on the 04+). everytime since then, when i have to drive another car, the ergonomics are never as good.

you act like its a daewoo. our cars are desireable. hell if the honda civic is the number one stolen car in america. ours might not be far off.
Any car with notable amounts of money put into it is worth stealing. But hey, they can steal honda's all they want, just as long as they leave ours alone, haha

it's not just expensive cars that get stolen, it's popular cheap cars as well. the more popular a car is, the more demand there is for used body parts... that's one reason civics are always high theft cars...

well mainly cars that dont come stock with alarms are assumed to be easy targets, at least from what i see. But when the @$$hole that smashed my window heard my alarm he must of $hit his pants unexpectingly and just ran off like a coward.

mine goes off all the time so pretty much everyone that walks by the car realizes that there is an alarm on it. i call it theft prevention.
