I was just wondering who else is at work looking at exd?

I know for me, its the second thing I do, the first being getting a cup of coffee :)

We can be like the 9-5ers at initech.

"Uhm yeah, I'm going to go ahead and have to ask you to come in on saturday mmmkay"

Did you get the memo about the tps reports?

I'm always looking at it from work, usually while on their lan, but now I have a DSL line at my desks so I can plug into there and not have to worry about those Work Warnings :D

I don't use the internet at home, or the computer at all for that matter, so if I'm on and it's not a weekend, I'm at work.

The internet is the only thing keeping me from going postal right now. There is noooooooooooooooo work for me to do and it's getting old. I've read the news from 5 diff sources, surfed EXD NT HP and any other car sites I come across, play some games and that's all before 10:30. I try to take a nap before lunch and when I get back I start the cycle again.

Yeah, I try to glance at new post at work but sometimes I get busy and it's hard to finish a reply. Usually when I get home I check my email...mostly things to delete and check the xd forum. ....Basically all I do online is look for new stuff to put on the wish list for my elantra ;)

We all actually watched Office Space a while back at work because all of our machines have DVD ROM drives. I thought it was just an ok movie before I had a desk job, now I laugh my a$$ off every time I watch it, had to buy a copy too! (well, actually burned a friends copy, but you know what I mean). Older people around me impersonate Monty Python, we imitate Office Space.

That and I just miss all you crazy bastards. Oh BTW first question of the day here. Is is OK to hate people who cause accidents stopping for bicycle crossings on divided highways? I was dropping my daughter off at the sitter this morning and this IDIOT in front of me comes to a halt in the middle of the road 50 MPH zone BTW for a cyclist crossing!! I stopped just fine (thank drilled and slotted rotors) but the fool behind me in a Honduh went into full on sideways tire-screaming lock-up. The plumbing gig might have been alright except I would have taken a pay cut for the first 2 years of the apprentice program and I wasn't too excited about digging trenches and shoveling **** out of crawl spaces after a drain or septic tank exploded. When they say the first couple years are **** work they really mean it. When this almosted happened the pay was about 32/hour approx(probably a buck or two more now) but that's after you've put in 5 years. I think years one was 10/hour, year 2 13/hour, year 3 19/hour, year 4 23/hour and then when you finish the apprenticeship they give you the big bucks. What they don't always tell you is that if you start you have to finish the apprenticeship or pay the union for all the education and it does cost about as much as a college degree if you drop out after about 1/2 way. After doing the bank/office thing for a couple years I really can't picture myself being happy in that line of work. Nothing against it, my future father-in-law is a plumber, I just like sitting on my *** surfing the web and collecting the pay with clean hands(unless I've been working on the car)

slvrsleeper
06-23-2004, 04:26 PM

I read you loud and clear on the "clean hands" thing man, I've done my fair share of **** work and will avoid it at all costs in the future. Of course I work hard at not working in my current job but that is a personal issue. I have been very lucky to find a steady job doing exactly what I love most, not many people can say that.

I'm in reality until next Friday, then I have the following week off. I don't have plans to go anywhere exotic, just the garage and a date with some 3M Wax. Towards the end of my week off, I have to go to Rockford to meet the florist, and baker, and photographer for the wedding :jerkit:, that'll be gay, but all this wedding crap is almost done.

Model 66? I carried a nickel plated S&W .357 model 66 as my sidearm when I worked security at the Nuclear Plant. It only had the 4" barrel though. 8" is too hard to quick-draw. It is the most beloved handgun I've ever fired.

yevRPS, Wish I was shooting those AR-15s with you, that's my fav. rifle. My primary weapon was a Bushmaster XM15E2S with adjustable stock, tridgecon sights, and flash supressor/sharpend bayonnette end. That job was the ****... too bad it didn't pay as well as this job, and the hours were long.

Anyway!

I'm here, just taking a training class that keeps me away from the computer for a couple hours at a time. Hey Mike I think I know what's giving you the tummy troubles. It's the Killians, I love the stuff but if I have more than 2 or 3 I pay badly the next day. I heard about the earth quake but must have slept right through it. Being it was only a 4.5 if I did feel anything I probably just thought the dog was jumping on the bed.

On a sad note I did get some bad news at work today. A guy I worked with who had transfered to Florence SC( I had spent some time with him down there just a couple months ago) was back here in the Chicago area visiting this past weekend and there was a house fire at the home he was staying at. They don't know the cause yet but unfortunatly he didn't make it. His buddy that owned the house made it out and tried to go back for him but the flames and smoke were too much. It sounds like the firefighters did bring him out alive but he later died of smoke inhalation. Please say a prayer or take a moment for Joe Mendenhall and his family, he was only 30 and will be missed by many.

Right now, I've got the best setup, I have a laptop that I take into our "install room" and sit at a desk with my face to the door, but there is a column between me and the door. So someone opens it and can't see me sitting here. Plus if they come around the column, I usually have EXD minimized. Plus also I'm on a DSL line and not the companies lan so no firewall to block me. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm the only Technician here this week, I wouldn't get bugged as much.

I can't wait to be questioned on budget justification for installing a WAP in the mens room - ha. (Actually, I can think of 2-3 bathrooms that have sufficient wireless coverage).

I remember reading an article about some doctor burning his croch because of a laptop and working with serveral different Dell Lattiude series in the past, they are all hot so I wouldn't dare take mine into the bathroom with me. I only want a hot croch from friction, not from hot electronics

I found out I get to leave 3 hours early tomarrow and get paid for it. Unfortunatly I'm driving down to Coal City for the wake of my former co-worker. Some good news to make the bad a little less painfull.

Unfortunately I have not had much time to slack today either, so I was trying to get caught up when I came across this. We lost one of our employees not very long ago too. Although I did not know him personally, I knew of him. His name was Paul Johnson. He was in Iraq on business when he was beheaded. We had a moment of silence for him last friday. I know how you feel, damn it sucks!

here's the company wide email that went out last week

On Friday at noon Eastern time, the Lockheed Martin community will observe a moment of silence as our collective tribute to Paul Johnson. We are asking all employees to take a few minutes to offer a silent prayer or reflect in your own way on the memory of Paul and the well-being of his family.

All of us have felt shock, anger and sadness at the senseless, brutal act committed last week. By joining together for a moment of silence, the 130,000 people in Lockheed Martin will honor Paul with a powerful expression of good will and respect for the inherent value of life.

This week, a top priority continues to be helping the family with the many issues they face surrounding this tragic event. We would like to thank employees who continue to work day and night to help assure the family's needs are met by facilitating transportation, housing, incidentals, access to benefits, logistics, counseling and briefings.

Another top priority is making sure we maintain a steadfast commitment to the security and safety of all employees. Those in the Middle East continue to serve only in mission-critical roles and only on a voluntary basis. Their dependents were returned to the U.S. in April. In recent weeks before this tragic event, we had taken steps to enhance security working with U.S. and in-country officials, and we are building on those efforts to further bolster our security posture. In addition to direct security support, employees receive full access to the latest security information on an ongoing basis. All of us can also help by placing a priority on safety and security.

Finally, we'd like to say a few words about the overwhelming support you have given to a fellow employee and his family. In the last week, we have received hundreds of emails from concerned employees, and these messages were delivered to the family. Your outpouring of thoughts, prayers, encouragement and kindness have given a measure of comfort to Paul's family in an otherwise excruciating ordeal.

In addition, in the few days since we announced the Paul M. Johnson Jr. Family Assistance Fund, Lockheed Martin and its employees have pledged more than $200,000 to help the immediate surviving family members get through the difficult days ahead.

We are proud to be associated with a team of professionals who have, time after time, demonstrated their concern toward fellow employees and others in difficult times. And in answer to the question, should we continue to operate overseas, we think the response of Paul's immediate team members speaks volumes. Despite his tragic death, they have returned to work in a show of resolve and tribute to Paul.

It's always difficult when someone around you passes away even if you weren't close. It's just really hard to grasp when the person is young healthy and you were having drinks with him only a couple months ago when I was down in Florence. And the most f@#$ed up part is none of this would have happened if he hadn't come home for a class reunion.

Last credible dyno I saw was 116hp 112 lb/ft or vice versa. Not that I care too much I am waaaaaay beyond stock. :D Did Sed disappear into the head for a mini vacation? Say Mike you can to do mods in your cube, you just have to bring the part you are working on with you! (Picture you in your cube with the entire front clip, turned sideways propped up on your desk) LOL Wandering back of topic again (is that even possible in this thread?) Who has seen "Lock stock and two smoking barrels"? I just love the scene where the stoner chick goes Rambo with the Bren gun!

That is a great movie. Snatch is also one of my favs, you just have to watch both of the movies 3 times to actually understand all of the dialog though.

I have a complaint... I was just talking to my dealer to sched. an oil change, and I asked if there were any parts in that I was waiting for. The good news is, there are. Here's my complaint - parts pickup is avail. 9am till 5pm. Ok, so when do working people go pick up their parts? Now I have to take off outta here at lunchtime and fly like a bat outta hell to get to the dealer and back in my alotted lunch time. This complaint is more than just the dealer though. Many things I've come accross have stupid hours. If your business is the business of providing a service for people, isn't it a good idea to be open when people can get to your business? urrggh.

I guess i shouldn't be too mad, I mean it's still under warranty....but it's the principality of the whole thing....has anybody had problems w/their window molding?
