I want to wire in some lights into the back seat, and I was wondering, what wires do I need to wire them in so that they turn on when the dome lights do, but also run off of an independent switch for each of the two. Any diagrams for wiring/help with this? I am willing to rip up the carpet to get into the ETACS if I have to.

not sure if this is what you're looking for, but:

you can modify the DIY to include a switch, easily enough.

I just added a pair of white LED's in nice little chrome bezels to the c-pillars in my '02 GT. I'll try to get some pics this weekend and post them next week. It was a fairly daunting project, requiring removal of the passenger side sunvisor, A-, B-, and C- pillars, the headliner trim piece that goes accross the back of the hatch, and the driver's side C-pillar, fishing wires through the headliner along the pasenger side of the car, drilling holes in the C-pillars, and of course, some soldering, but the wires are all run inside the headliner, and linked into the driver's side maplight switch. (If you wanted to, you could wire them for independent controls with the driver and passenger maplight buttons.) I can turn the lights on manually from there, and they DO come on when I open a door. They look perfect, like they were factory installed, and they give just enough light to get my son in and out of his carseat at night, although I am thinking about putting in a smaller resistor to make them a bit brighter. (I wanted them fairly dim for his sake, so I went a bit higher resistance than I really needed to.) I wanted to do a DIY for this, but the batteries in the digicam died, and I was rushing to get the project finished while the sun was still up, so I didn't take any pics of the in-car process. (sorry.) I'll get some pics of the end result posted soon. For the wiring, I tapped into the maplight switches. Here's the DIY that gave me the idea. http://nifty-stuff.com/gt-lights-seats.php

actually, im adding two neon tubes under the seats for the back, and i want to run them that way to work off of the door triggers and off of a seperate switch that i want to wire in later... or maybe have it run off of the sunroof switches...

you dont have to rip up the carpet man. you can remove the WHOLE carpet if you need to in about an hour. remove the seats, center console, back bottom seat, and all the little circle tabs holding the trim pieces above the carpet, and the whole thing will come out

You should not have to do any carpet removal, If you need to get to the ETACS module it is located behind the hvac controls and below the radio

i have installed a bizillion electrical things in my car and half of those have something to do with the ETACS and i have never had to pull out any carpeting.

you can remove the console and then just snake the wire under the rug from there and out under the rear seat. you may have to use a coat hanger or something... but it should only take 5 minutes max.

thats what i was thinking...
i also was thinking the possibility of putting in on the ceiling, but the light from it may be a distraction if it was turned on while i was driving depending on where/how i put it in.
