View Full Version : Personal ineptitude or strange theft?

Today I finally have time to put my car back together after swapping out a thermostat and giving up on the temperature sensor (for now.) When last I touched my car, some two weeks ago I think, I had left my tools under the hood, left the screws in various spots also under the hood, etc. and then put the hood down -- but didn't latch it. I parked my car in my backyard, because without certain bits of the engine compartment put together, I wasn't going to be able to move the car on Mondays & Tuesdays for street cleaning.

So I'm putting things together again today, and I can't find two of the screws for the bottom of the air filter. In addition, one of my screwdriver heads + the adapter that lets me use it with my ratchet is missing.

This makes no sense, the car hasn't budged. I start cleaning the leaves off of the air intake for the HVAC system, and ... there's a latex glove in amongst the leaves. Last I looked, we didn't have a latex-glove-tree. Hey, at least it wasn't a condom.

This leads me to wonder, is someone messing with me?

Or have I just put these things somewhere really freaking stupid.

Either way, it's annoying, as I've got people coming over from MD and NY in a few hours, and I'd like to drive them around in the Elantra, rather than the Accent hatchback.

ALSO.

This all came to happen because of a little check engine light that came on a while back. I finally run the diagnostic on the car, and it comes up with nothing. Again, I haven't touched anything, there's no way that got cleared somehow.

Hopefully this isn't the beginning of the end of my car or anything like that. I still have 9 months of payments left on this sucker.

Hahaha, Matt, that's funny (the latex glove tree part).

Maybe some animals were messing with the stuff?

that glove is weird... if anyone was under the hood of your car i think you'd be seeing some parts missing so i doubt someone was under there...

Maybe I've just got a silly case of paranoia. The last few weeks have been kind of crazy.

The screwdriver head & adapter... stuck into my hood liner. I only noticed it when I backed the car up and put the hood up again, the new sunlight must have made it stick out. Score one point for personal ineptitude.

Still can't find the two screws that go into the air filter box. Maybe I put them in my jacket somewhere.

...and the latex glove defies all reasonable thinking. Why only one glove? What's it doing between my windshield and hood? Haha.

I might be able to use the screws from that plastic engine cover thingie until I can make it over to the dealership this week.

In addition, one of my screwdriver heads + the adapter that lets me use it with my ratchet is missing. Gee did you ever notice that someone you grew up with alway put his tools away & loose parts in a plastic bags ? This makes no sense, the car hasn't budged. I start cleaning the leaves off of the air intake for the HVAC system, and ... there's a latex glove in amongst the leaves. Last I looked, we didn't have a latex-glove-tree. Hey, at least it wasn't a condom. Germlins or leprechaun, :D
