I just ordered some NGK Power G plugs & NGK wires for my 2001 Elantra. Can somebody tell me what's involved in the installation? Never installed my own plugs on a car before.

plugs and wire installation is a snap, especially on our car ('01 gls)
if you still have both engine covers (black one and silver one) remove them both (hint: you have to remove the oil cap to get the silver one off), i think you need a 10mm rachet for those.
then, pop the wires off of each sparkplug (take it easy, doesn't take alot of effort):

after that, remove the wires on this end (shown):

you will need a "5/8 Spark Plug Socket", rachet, and it's easier done with an extension. the socket will have a little rubber or silicone ring inside that is intended to grip the porcelain part of the spark plug to remove it from the hole. remove each spark plug and make sure nothing falls into the holes you pulled them from. IT IS EASIEST TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THEM ONE AT A TIME! when tightening them, make them snug, but be sure not to overtighten them, they are delicate. then just place the wires on each. viola!

rule of thumb is hand tighten + 1/4 turn with ratchet

oh yeah, if the plugs require gapping and you don't know how, have someone do it for you
where did you buy your plugs and wires from?

go to an auto parts store and buy one of those quarter sized key chain plug gappers. i think they go for like 3 bucks. just remember one wire at a time and don't mix them up. don't mind evan.

yeah. when we did cornbreadxd's @ the meet, he got NGK plugs/wires and they were already gapped to the correct gap. the keychain gappers are easy to do. no use taking em somewhere to have done

Thanks for the help with the plugs. How about the other end of the wires? Anything special needed to remove them? I'm waiting on my plugs/wires to show up. Soon as they do I'll be ready to pull the cover off & do the swap.

Sweet..... sounds like this should be a really easy job. After 53k I figure they are more than due for replacement. Maybe it'll get my fuel economy up a bit too.
