It seems that my problems started again this year WTF
It wasn't as bad last year.
Yesterday we got rain and today it's sub-zero temps.
I park my car in a tempo at home so no cold winds...
I got to school this morning and now I just came back, my ebrake was COMPLETELY siezed as opposed to last year when only a wheel would sieze.
I was like 'damn' nothing much I can do about it but drive until it unsiezes because of the heat.
Well on my way out of the parking lot I got stuck on a patch of ice :( and i had to get like 6 people to move the car sideways out of it so I can get out with my siezed ebrake. NOT FUN.
Took 3/4 of the trip home to unsieze, holy hell i can smell burning pad like there is no tomorrow...
And for those who will say 'why do you put the ebrake on' well I have a remote starter and it has a built-in feature that detects the ebrake.
I just remembered why i dont like winter with this car. :plzdie:

Man, that sucks!! I am having some good times in the snow, but I think that I will start leaving my e-brake off. This car handles fairly well in the snow and is easy to correct when it starts to slide.
Anyway, I hope things work out for your ebrake, felix.

I never use my E-Brake and I never will unless I put my car on a jack.

I use mine every day (manual) and no probs. If you never use your ebrake, and haven't for years, don't start cause it may well seize. Mine seized on my old car. It caught fire cause I drove with it when it was seized (auto and I can't remember when I engaged the brake before that). I think I might have been dragging the tire until I arrived at work. Anyway, the little flames finally went out, lots of smoke, and the smell was horrid. That was the end of the car, I gave up after that. Left it in the parking lot for 3 days while I got a rental trying to figure out what to do with it. My mechanic was nice enough to come by and release it with a few blows of a hammer and it was fine after that. Within a month, it was gone and I was into my Hyundai :)

why don't you look into one of those hydraulic emergency brakes. i have mostly seen them for off-road vehicles. you would basically hook it up to your brake lines so that when you press on the brake and then turn the switch (i think its some kind of butterfly valve) it would keep the brakes (all 4 in this case) on as if you were pusing on the pedal.

Do you have any idea if it's the caliper freezing or something with the cable?
I don't know how you can drive with it on... my car won't move with the e-brake on....

frankly I have no clue where exactly the freezing is going on.
Right now the ebrake isnt on, but if i put it on, even slightly, it sticks there.
I will have to jack the car up and see.
I was too busy with other things (replacing HU and cleaning garage LOL) to try that, and frankly, lifting the car in the weather just doesnt do it for me haha
i will update when i get one

yea cause my remote starter has a sensor for neutral position of the shifter and the ebarake that should be on :(
thats that its a bad thing LOL

Most people that I know that drives a manual generally use their e-brakes, even when they're in an automatic. I don't trust leaving the car only in 1st or reverse gear.
But then again, I'm in California and we never have to worry about anything freezing. That must suck to drive 3/4 of your trip home with your e-brakes on.

id say if its such a problem, just leave it in gear and dont use your remote start. i would rather be cold for 2-3 min while the car is warming then potentially f'ing up my brakes by driving w/ the ebrake on

... but leaving the car in gear isnt flawless either... it can fail sometimes
what good is a remote start for if you cant use it lol
im going to buy the lines after im done with the turbo (they cost around 150$ a pair)

I had to replace both of my e-brake cables in the last 6 months because the end broke off the cables on both sides. OEM part at Hyundai is aroung $51/each. Pretty easy to fix, and while you're at it, take a wire brush to the "ears" of the rear brake pads and put anti-seize on them before re-installing. Your e-brake won't ever stick again.
