Some people have removed it and painted (one coat flat black, one coat clear); some people have had it replaced by the dealer; and I think that someone was thinking of replacing it themselves. Now that I have typed all that out, I'm hoping that you are talking about the door pillars between the doors. Mine is peeling as well, I would like to get it re-done by the dealer, but I would also like to see what it looks like painted instead.
Anyway, there are already a half a dozen threads on this kicking around somewhere. I'll take some time to try and find them in a minute or two (or 15).

I think there was a pic of one on the old site. It should be body color under the black tape. If I get more time later I will look for it.

I'm still trying to find someone with a GT Hatch that has done it. I'm not sure how it will look with the rear window we have with the black surrounding.

1st. it is body color. when i removed one, some how, removing all the glue residue (which will take A LONG time. like an hour) was a *****, and there were patches of scratches under it. shows bad on black. i went to the dealer. they stripped and painted one side under warranty, and forgot to do the other side. took it back, they had my car, then called me and told me it wasnt under warranty and shouldnt have done the other side. currently, im battling the dealership since Sed, and 2 other dealerships told me 5yr/60k miles, and this one dealership is saying no. im still waiting on a call from the regional manager, so i can have some words with him

I got mine replaced no problem at the dealer .. in fact they were nice enough to do both side even though I only complained about the drivers side. Apparantly the passenger side was starting to wrinkle up as well but I hadn't even noticed. Mine was under 3 years old at the time, not sure if that would make a difference or not since the bumper to bumper is 5/60
And yes it is body color under the sticker

ba_feitl - can you PM me or post the name/dealership that did yours. and do you know what the mileage was? the dealership is telling me its covered under the paint warranty, even though it isnt paint, because painting is what the do to repair it. im trying to get a list of dealerships that are covering it 5yr/60k to battle this dealership with

2 days? they did my timing belt and my window tape, in a full day and had it done @ noon the next day. so they should be able to do it in 1 day if you drop it off the night before or @ open that day

Sounds like you've got it now, sorry I didn't see your post here... my dealer was Gartner Hyundai in Aurora IL. I'd guess my mileage was around 20k at the time. It took a couple days to do the whole thing.

Here's an update from me.
My local dealer did it for free under warranty at 50,000 miles (last week). They did have the car for one full day. They said they had to take it to another place to get it done. I had the Sonata loaner from Wednesday morning - Friday night. They only did the front doors though, which were the worst. They didn't do the rears which on the passenger side have a small piece that is peeling. I'm going to go back before 60K miles to get those done.
