View Full Version : Turbo Install Plans ..

Ok, I have decided that it would be better to install the kit than to let it sit forever..

So here is what I've got lined up with only 1 major item that is missing from the parts list.

Parts I've already got:

Speed-Factor Custom turbo kit.

Turbo (T3 Super 60)
Manifold with external wastegate port.
Downpipe.
boost pipes
optional intercoolers and all pipes and fittings.
turbo oil lines
Spare Oil Pan.
Boost Guage
Sonata Injectors.
SAFC2 (Not gonna use it, i'll keep my SS ARC1 thank you very much).
Blitz JDM BOV
TiAL Adjustable external wastegate (7psi spring inside "I HOPE").

Missing part(s).

Turbo Inlet Flange (TIM???)
NGKBKR6E-11 Spark plugs (One stage colder than stock).
WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE ! LOL

lastly... I think that I will need at least 2 services done outside of my garage once the kit is installed.

Weld a new mid-pipe to the turbo downpip that flanges onto my cat-back.
you guessed it... DYNO TIME !!!

Anyway... if the weather is crappy this weekend.. I'm gonna start it up and hopefully I can finish by Sunday... I am only worried about the missing turbo inlet flange since I cant fit an air filter to the turbo without it....

Parts not included in the Kit that I will need to finish the job:

5 turbo downpipe flange bolts
downpipe flange to turbo gasket (?)
Manifold to turbo gasket.
2 bolts to hold the turbo inlet flange and a gasket for the flange.
oil drain flange is missing the tread-on nipple.
2 bolts are missing from the wastegate flange to the dump-pipe.
2 bolts to hold the oil drain adapter to the turbo.

So it looks like I've got some parts hunting to do before I could really start this.. I knew I should have inspected the kit more thoroughly when I got it.. lol

So what PSI do you plan on running, I'm hoping you will be going with the intercooled option as well. Plan on selling the SAFCII now too?

FordFasteRR
11-18-2005, 05:28 PM
7-10 psi I suppose ..

I will only sell the safc2 after the install and dyno tuning are done just to be sure that i really don't need it.

:)

I might let it go at a reasonable price too ... how does $ 23,000,234,939,023,324. sound ? :abovelol: not a bad deal huh !! :) LOL

hmmm seems like you're good to go, man.

Erg I am looking for some oil line now I don't know where to start :(

what are you going to be doing with the MAP? Or does the ARC1 have a voltage clamp?

ALRIGHT!! I was hoping that you would install the turbo and not sell it. I wanna see another boosted xd. I hope u plan to document the entire process :)

Bad news...

There is a tropical storm forming in the gulf... I'm going to have to pause the work until after the storm is gone.............

It looks like I won't start this project until NEXT weekend .... if ever !! (+ This gives TIM time to send me the one final and last remaining part for this turbo kit.. " Turbo Inlet Flange " )...

In the mean time, I am going to lock this thread as to prevent it from getting polluted until there is actually something to post about in it...

:)

never mind about locking it...

go ahead and pollute all you want... :)

Open Says Me >>>> :d

Ok, I can't seem to firgure out how to unlock it.. hopefully another MOD can help me out with this one ! hehe

yes, but initially I am going to build it like a regular non-intercooled setup just to work out the bugs.

Then I'll add the intercooler :)

Ford, I suggest you try a max of 6psi with the sonata injectors unless you either convert to a return style fuel system or add a sub injector. At 10psi of boost on the stock fuel pump the Sonata injectors will be flowing less than the 290cc rating due to the boost differential. Another option is to add a 190lph pump that will increase base pressure to 60psi so at 10psi boost the pressure will still be 50psi which should be enough.

Ford already has this stuff. I believe he has the pump, and a cheat for the fuel system...

BC... My fuel system is stock.

The only thing I have to supplement fuel are the sonata injectors.

As far as tuning, I have a Split Second ARC1 Fuel tuner which is a simple leaner tuner with a high/low load adjustments... and I have a seperate Split Second Digital Adjustable MAP Clamp which prevents the ecu from reading boost past 4.7 volts (max voltage output of the map sensor) ...

I suppose that I will keep a close eye on the air/fuel gauge when I get the boost on to be sure its in a safe zone... otherwise I'll have to upgrade the fuel pump to the 180 lph which is not a problem.

180 lph? which pump will you use for that, I have never heard of it.

cypher- check out the oil my caddilac spills! (now back on topic)

After the missing parts setback, I'm starting to have doubts again :(

I'm going to get the parts so that I'm ready for the install either way.

Currently I am waiting for Tim to send me the turbo inlet part...

And I need a buch of bolts and 2 turbo gaskets... one for the turbo-to-downpipe and one for the manifold-to-turbo section..

That should get me much MUCH closer...

Then, I need a fitting for the turbo oil return flange... I got the flange with Tims kit, but it was missing the fitting to hook it to the thick braided steel oil return hose...

then, I have to get the oil pan drain fitting drilled/tapped into the spare oil pan.. but I don't know exactly WHERE to drill the hole until I test-fit the turbo and downpipe onto the car in person...

anyway... the waiting continues.

I think you shoudl stick with it. You've waited his long. No need to rush this project. As much as all of us are dying for you to put the turbo in, we'd rather you take your time and do it the right way.. :D So when do you want me to pass by ur crib?? lol

KeWLKaT
11-22-2005, 10:59 AM
FF why don't you tap into the block? I am considering doing that myself, just like Mahonroy did.

I want to be able to un-do the kit if i want.

I suppose that I could always just stick a brass plug into the block if I need to remove the bung...

anyway... I'll think about it. I would rather not drill the block since its much easier to just drill the pan itself. :) (remember, I have a spare oil pan just for this project (THANKS SED) !! )

KeWLKaT
11-22-2005, 11:08 AM
Ooooh true that I had forgotten about your spare oil pan.

Good luck. But from the looks of it there is only one location on the oil pan that is prone to be tapped, and that's the region inbetween the two finned 'humps'.

Cypher
11-22-2005, 01:10 PM
whats tapping the block?

only1db
11-22-2005, 04:27 PM
for oil...at the right just under the head...there is a place to tap (drill) into the block for oil....you will need it to lube the turbo.

FordFasteRR
11-22-2005, 04:36 PM

nonono...

the tapping we are talking about is for the oil RETURN, not the oil feed. Thre is already a plug on the cyl head next to the coil packs that can be removed with an allen wrench and then you thread a fitting on it for an oil feed line to the turbo without drilling/tapping.

THe problem we are talking about is the oil return near the oil pan area... in my case, I will not drill/tap the block for the return, instead I plan to drill/tap my spare oil pan and just swap it on the install day and be done with it.

This allows me to reverse it without anyone knowing that I had the turbo if I ever take it off :)

only1db
11-22-2005, 04:41 PM
i thought thats what everybody did....why drill back into the block for the return?? where would you do that?

oil pan would be the better solution just because it goes directly back to the pan...right? makes sense to me

I'm with Ford on this, most boosted people don't like, nor do their cars, anything othr than good ole Copper.
