Not a big piece, but I know a lot of you other auto guys have wished for one of these for some time. I even have the part number - but it's in my car, so I'll have to post that later ;)

(It's the chrome button to replace the black one for the Auto-shifter)

You realize once you give out the part number there is going to be a run at all the local dealers.

^^^ Right, that's what the part number is for. I knew since I got my SF in Summer of '04 that it would fit, I just finally got around to ordering it. The leather shifter in GLS+ models of the SF is the same as the leather shifter in the Elantra, but the Elantra never got the chorme button. It looks especially good with the chrome tweeters and chrome door handles... like it belongs. I also ordered the chrome cap for the e-brake from the SF, but must have screwed up when writing down a number or something, because I ended up with some little black rubber thing.

If Hyundai was smart Maybe they put it in the new "Limited" trim of the XD2 aswell since all they did was put a bunch of KDM chrome pieces on a GLS.

How much does it cost?

Depends on your dealer, but I think it for like $4.25 or something... actually, it was $4.25 for it and the other part I ordered, so less than that - unless your dealer has a rediculous markup.

Did anyone else ever get one of these? I still need to.

Holy back from the dead James. In 2 years you still didn't get one of these? Just go to hyundai's online parts and have one ordered shipped right to your door, should be <$5 /shipped. Unless you have a junkyard nearby that might have a Santa Fe you can pull one from.

I got mine just after I bought my car in October '04. When my car was in for the front steering rack replacement, I was given a Santa as a loaner. I noticed the chrome button on the shifter and asked the parts to round one up for my Elantra to match the chrome door latches. It was $4.97 at the time. I love it ... when I drive, I rest my hand on the knob and rub the button with my thumb. That sounds kinky! :D

Updating thread (again) with pictue of my shifter.

Also, please note: anyone attempting to install the button - it only fits one way. If you put it in and it gets 'stuck' youhave it upside down. It looks like this shouldn't matter during the install, but the piece is not a perfect oval, it is more like a kidneybean shape, so that it only fits properly one way.

Tomorrow I'm going to try it with the shift knob on. Right now I have it sitting on my desk, I have been driving around with a shift knob, haha.

I'll take some pics of my button compared to the OEM one too.

It looks just like that one that you have Mike, but it doesn't fit either way, at least not when the shift knob isn't attached.

I just did it too. Mine fit.

The wheel on the button should be down in the shifter, which I am sure you already knew.;)
The Chrome button goes well with the gear surround...ect.

I knew I wasn't an idiot. Today I got a GT/Leather shift knob from an 01 Hatch and the chrome button works out perfectly. The opening on the GLS and GT knobs are different. The GT has a slightly bigger opening. Look.

Ah, I see. I already had the GT knob in my car before the button, so I never knew about a size difference. Good to know.
